The Firearm thread...questions, advice, range reports welcome

Yea, I like the look of both guns but it’s damn near impossible to find the Magnum research 1911 .45 in stainless, so I’m most likely going to go with the Springfield. It’s a Xmas present for my son, trying to get Xmas wrapped up early this year, hate stressing over that shit as it’s gets closer
Magazines will be easier to find and cheeper for the Springfield. I'm not a huge fan of DR

Cool thing about the cz75 clones is most of the magazines work together except the cz ones. The EEA,Tangfolio,Desert Eagle,Sarsilmaz ect.All interchangable on most models .

Thanks, I’ve heard that some of the magnum research 1911’s also have feed problems
I hate that Magnum Research got bought out and started making 1911s. The real company was popular for their 50 calibur Desert Eagles Baby desert eagles . ..and then when they sold to usa kahr Firearms they started slapping the Desert Eagle across a subpar 1911 made in usa. If you still want one of the Desert Eagles or Baby Desert Eagles made in the Valley of the guns you can still get the IWI Guns made in isreal.

I have a suggestion, go pay a professional trainer for a basic pistol class.

You will learn so much that it is difficult for me to describe in a post. It is worth a couple hundred bucks, please just trust me on that. You will wonder why you did not do it sooner.
I second this. I have had so much fun and learned more than I ever thought I could taking several handgun and rifle courses at a local gun school near me. The guy even does simulated stress training and all kinds of home defense stuff. I had him come over (we've become friends) and critique our plans.

Surprised no one is talking about how they basically banned guns in Canada.View attachment 174622
I am so fucking sick of Canada's bullshit.

I actually had a scare the other night. I was up at 4 am and had the window cracked and I heard voices oitside. I live I'm the country woods so that is NOT normal. I immediately grab my rifle and slowly slide the window open. I shine my 1000 lumen streamlight rifle light on my front yard and there was two guys, looked like teenagers, walking up my driveway hill. What happened next was hilarious. Yellong profanities mixed with "SORRY!!", one of them straight fell over from the scare right onto his face. The other lookd up right at me and was immediately night blind from the light. Tried to run back down the hill but tripped along the way. They both continued running and the first fell one more time.

Even if I wasn't up I'm sure my motion floodlights would've scared them off. I honestly doubt they were doing anything nefarious. One had a white Hoodie on. The grave road I live on turns into my driveway so it's possible they didn't realize they were on private property (benefit of the doubt here...I do have signs but who knows).

One other thing you can do is have a lamp or two on a timer switch that turns on and off a few times in the middle of the night. If your house looks like someone is awake then the chances of burglary go way down. Also even if you don't have an alarm, buying a couple ADT signs is a great idea. Having "beware of dog" signs is excellent and i can't remember where (it mightve been here) but someone said leaving some chewed up dog toys near your doors can be good as dogs are a huge risk for anyone trying to break in.

You gave them the benefit of the doubt but it does sound like it would be unusual for them to be where they were, from your description.

Have you thought about setting up security cameras? They are a deterrent.

I'm not sure if the cameras will be such a factor, although I could be wrong.

Shooting courses are generally a very cool topic. When I first got there, I was really happy. It is very exciting.

Yeah they're a GREAT place to learn and be able to practice all the things you need. Drawing from holster, reloading, moving from cover to cover. shooting from cover, target acquisition, speed to shoot multiple targets, etc. I can't recommend them enough. Also you'll almost always meet people with way more experience you can give you pointers at minimum, you may very likely meet some instructors or people you can take classes with too!

I have cameras. The flood lights are a night deterrent. The cameras are surely a deterrent during the day or if a bad guy were to see them. I've got them on the ceilings above my doors outside. They're white, so highly visible.

Everyone: security is always about LAYERS. Whether it's physical or IT security. If you have ONE thing, then a bad guy might still be like "eh let's give it a go". If you've got floodlights, cameras, alarm signs, dog signs, and whatever, then with every additional item the likelihood of them pushing forward goes down.

It is important to attend such courses and training.
