Anxiety Medications. What has worked for you?

What's up guys?
As alot of you know i take xanax as needed for panic attacks stemming from issues in the service.
Today my GP prescribed Buspar for me. Hoping i can eventually come off xanax for good.
Does anyone have experience with this med? I'm skeptical because from what i have read it seems it's more for generalized anxiety and not panic attacks.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Medication is useless without addressing the underlying issue. The panic attacks are the symptom of something obviously. Meditation, you’d thought process and creating new neuropathways is the way to get out of this hell . Benzos were NEVER meant for long term use. But today big Pharma wants everyone strung out. Good luck mate.
Side note: I recommend using your mind & body oppose to more drugs. Just my opinion.

Tricyclic clomipramine overpowers any anxiety, and are the only thing that makes me feel self control. Sides are rough though.

So i have been trying many different methods. And have been making huge strides. But i got exhuated of feeling anxious and wanted a break so took a combo of over the counter things, and its fucked up because it worked so well. I took a dose of kratom, which is a horrible substance. I wish i could find something to work this well. That i could use consistantly. I litterally did so much and was able to do things that i normally would struggle. But its not a good supplement to take. Such bullshit, as i cant find any good meds that will help achieve this. So i am obviously not taking the kratom anymore as i was once taking it non stop in the past. But i felt so clear headed. Did laundry, exercise went for a beautiful bike ride, had work, meal prepped, slept well, and ate my calories and hydrated so easily. Was even able to give extra time to my partner.

I have not found any prescription medication that doctors would use that works like so. Stupid, i that these medication have such drawbacks, and withdrawals. Going to find a doctor to get something that maybe will work and give me this clear headed feeling. That is script and not so addictive

That's called being high.

Opiates did the same thing for me, and presumably many others...which explains the high amount of addicted users. I worked a construction job and could have just kept working everyday by the end of my shift. As you mentioned doing everything was easy, because I was high and everything was pleasurable.

You will never find anything without consequences that compares to a drug high.

The best thing I've found for anxiety is consistent controlled breathing practice. I tried a bunch until I found what I iked and worked. It's not a quick fix though. You get better at it over time and it needs to be consistently done. Learning to control my breathing has done a lot of good for me. I'm not a pro at it or anything but when I'm spending 15 minutes daily on it I notice a big difference in my daily life. Sounds like some hippie shit but damn does it work for me.

I get having benzos on hand for panic attacks. I've never had one but I have friends who experience them. Sounds terrible. I'm speaking more to general consistent anxiety. I do have knowledge on benzo addiction though and it is one of the most dangerous dependencies. Horrendous to detox from and literally a threat to your life if you don't detox properly.

I've had a few uncomfortable conversations with friends when they get a script for a benzos because I am honestly very afraid of them and fear for people who don't understand what they are dipping into. I treat and respect benzos like I do a rattlesnake, I know they have a place in the world and let them be but I don't go near them.

Breathing exercises work. Also, try breathing from a bag. Inhaling CO2 will stop any panic attack. Yeah, it's not a joke. Bag breathing works.

And stay from the benzos. Once you take even a single benzo, it rewires your brain. Only use a benzo if you are really desperate.

I've read about the CO2 but never tried it. I u
Like to over oxygenating fast breathing techniques. Maybe I'll give the CO2 a try.

Hey bro . I been in your shoes my cheese little off my cracker for a spell when my wife got pregnant . I was riddled with panic and anxiety worried past heath problems I had would come back and I wound not be around for my child . I can’t comment on that medication’s are currently on but at the time I was prescribed Valium. However, I quickly transitioned off of that. To something more mild called citalphram , and it was helpful until I was able to get my mind right . It is said that idle hands are dangerous. The same thing can be said for your mind. if I can give you any piece of advice, it would be to force yourself during an episode get out, take a kid or friend for an ice cream , go train , have sex even . You can over come this good luck man

I smoked a lot of joints before i started bodybuilding, eventually they caused me panic attacks and got near permanent anxiety since then.

Went through a period of trying a million medicines but i didnt feel like fixing it with medication so i started to work out.

Exercise helped a lot but when i need extra help i take l-theanine caspsules, normally one or two if i take too many i even feel sleepy. They are natural, not expensive and actually work.

Even low dose SSRI works for me... literally made everything so much easier. Used to take 10mg Escitalopram (Lexapro) but 5 mg turns out to work just as good for me.

I'm going to forgo one of my usual flip remarks & say meditation practice chilled me out better then anything I've ever tried. Just sit quietly and count your breaths twice a day for at least twenty minutes each time. It's kinda hard at first, but it won't take long before you realize how much brain chatter you have & how distracting it is. After awhile you develop a level of consciousness that doesn't participate with the brain chatter and through that you'll start calming down, at times even profoundly so. No pharmacology interventions required. Just sit quietly & and count your breaths.

I generally agree with this. Sometimes peoples anxiety is just so bad that they will need some medication first which then allows them to get into a habit with meditation, breathing exercises and other stuff...

Pyrazolam, if you can get hold of it, is all you'll need. Yes, it's a benzo. No, it's not addictive (look it up, also from personal experience of having taken it twice a day for two years, then being unable to get hold of it after brexit and having zero withdrawals)

Escitalopram 10 mg per day. Huge.

Cold turkey after 1 year. Got me through a bad bad time. Took about 4 weeks to kick in.

Warning: tradeoff was worsening anhedonia. Be ready to handle that

Have you found anything for you that helped with worsened anhedonia induced by ssris? Currently sitting in the same boat.

I had to go off Brother. Fortunately the panic seems to be gone after a year on the med even off the med but it is still early. The brain zaps are nuts (been off 3 weeks).

Took my Test up to 200 mg/week and planning a nice little blast. That should make things interesting.

But yes a few weeks off the lexapro and the anhedonia is better. Best wishes!
