All things grappling

It definitely keeps me in line with diet, sleep, lifting, and drugs. If i stop rolling everything else kind of gets loose.

I have surprised many a white belt with it, and then shown them it also works really well with a sweatshirt hoodie lol.
I was fat as fuck before I started bjj and having to be accountable for my weight going into a comp was a huge part of keeping me on track. Those habits have really paid off now that I am on the injured list.

I could see how the BB choke with a hoodie could be useful in Chicago!

Good thread.

Im older guy training both gi and no gi.

I had a major injury for 2 years that prevented me training and competing. Hit some BPC and its fixed it for me which is awesome.

Now looking at what can be done to get me on a normal level, don't wanna go over board.

Same her my man! Was obese my whole life and got up to a 44bmi before turning things around. I found grappling after i lost 100lbs and its been my main drive to keep improving my body ever since.
Maximize that power to weight ratio for competition baby! Its also alot nicer to be out of the open weight divisions, some of those big guys are well....ya knowimages (3).webp unfit but effective?

Nice, TRT and some healing peptides should help keep you on the mats for awhile!

Have you had your testosterone checked?

I love seeing guys turn themselves around in this sport. Then it just snowballs into other areas of your life.

In the GI I like to use collar and sleeve to get them stretched out and then come up on a collar drag or just get them off balance and come up to the front headlock!

What is everyone’s opinion of weight cutting going into a comp?

I would cut weight to keep out of ultra heavy when I first started competing and I really hated it. A lot of extra stress going into the event. For me, as long as I’m not going into ultra, I will not cut weight.

I did a day before weigh in once and I still didn’t like it. I came way down and still didn’t feel right by the next day.

I’m not a big fan myself but really kinda depends if i wait until last minute or start a month out. I won’t do any major cutting inside a week anymore because i don’t like the internal anxiety i get from thinking about it and i can always feel an energy difference. Especially for something like IBJJF where you weigh before you fight and have no time to really hydrate or eat. Nothing worse than heading to Vegas for worlds and not being able to eat all that good food the first couple of days lol. My best experience with cutting was one time i was going to fight down from middle to light so i had like 14lbs to cut a couple of weeks out. Started cutting, got to weight and felt good 3 days out then got an email that my division, which had 3 other guys in it, all of a sudden had no one else so i moved up to middle and inhaled food for the next few days leading up to event, it was great!

Cutting weight to fit in a bracket you want in on?

100% go for it if you have a month or 2 to diet hard and can plan a refeed week in right before comp.

Cutting WATER right before weigh ins to make it?

Hell na, not unless its just 1 big match. My big thing is compete how you train, so i dont even like to add in more peds coming into an event. Nothing worse then cutting some water adding some var then cramping like hell as you get to the ground on your first match of the day.

The only thing I will change is lowering any stimulants. So not as much caffeine. Other than that I like to keep everything the same also.

Words to live by. I like to test out PWOs at open mats.

Have you ever run the Tbol prior to sparring at open mat?
I have. I don’t get big pumps from it but I also don’t get them from Dbol either.

I am really trying not to hype it up in case you don’t respond well to it but it also cuts cortisol by 50%. That is in some paper that vigorous Steve posted.

You have me wanting to lean into it once I come back.

I was curious about that after reading the tbol thread and some people talking about how it has characteristics with fast twitch muscle that would help in a sporting activity where speed is beneficial such as combat sports

Only GH and test ever benefited my grappling and I’ve tried it all.

4IU and 200mg for me. Maybe 300mg. Beyond that I don’t feel as good on the mat and the cons start outweighing the pros,
Im right there with ya, some test and gh is as good as it gets for me. If start adding to much i almost feel more weighted down and less articulate.

Though for another perspective ive read @Leg_locker say he enjoys a bit of tren with his bjj training, and doesnt get any adverse cardio sides from it. Maybe he can chime in here too.

I would say I notice more muscular endurance than speed. When I first tried it, my feels told me I was quicker but that kind of faded.
