Interesting, same here, used to lift before taking bjj and going back to striking sports, when I stopped lifting. I ve been struggling with pubalgia for about 2 years and the PT noticed serious imbalances around the chore , weaker glutes, abductors and lower abs and I ve recently started lifting again, feeling better regarding the pubalgia although it is not fixed (Incidentally I also have L4/L5 issues, sometimes sciatica, so the pulling heavy lifting program might cause other issues). So far I m lifting ridiculously lighter weights than I did 5 years ago, when I was hardly bigger.
Also, if anyone has any feedback on the issue, taking my daughter to the gym in 2023 after she got injured and had to stop her regular sports training I noticed I had less strength in the right forearm than her (she is 120lbs I was almost 240 ). Thought it had to do with a tendinitis I carried a long time on that arm and actually went to see an orthopedist about this who thought I was joking considering I do not look weak, but moved country before doing the tests.
I might be stronger than her now, dunno, but my whole right arm up to the shoulder is a bit smaller than the left, and right grip is still weaker, very obvious at the gym when trying to pull a barbell.
As of steroids use in bjj, ime it depends on the gyms, in some places people are quite open about it. In Wrestling less so, I guess it depends if one competes in tested or untested tournaments, and whether it might cause them legal issues (in the countries I´ve lived, aas are no big deal)
I only like No Gi btw, grappling culture, and just wrestle atm because the bjj culture is way more Gi based here, with a lot of theatrics.
