Loading Bitcoin onto BlueWallet via ATM: a simple, almost anonymous method without using exchanges

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my experience purchasing Bitcoin without going through an exchange, avoiding the usual KYC procedures and account tracking.

Goal:

Load Bitcoin directly into BlueWallet, in a simple, fast, and private way.

Method:

1. I install BlueWallet.

2. I find a Bitcoin ATM in my area.

3. I top up my wallet via the ATM by scanning the wallet’s QR code.

After a few minutes, the satoshis are sent directly to BlueWallet.

Question to the community:

Do you think this method is also suitable for directly paying for products or services in Bitcoin, completely bypassing the fiat system and centralized exchanges?
Specifically, is it technically and legally sustainable for someone who wants to use BTC as a regular payment method?

Is it anonymous enough to successfully make purchases online?

You can use any bitcoin wallet btw don't need blue wallet specifically.

Not really anonymous you are paying with your card

You're absolutely right.
I mentioned BlueWallet, but of course, any Bitcoin wallet that lets you receive BTC will work just fine.
I was probably a bit too specific in my example my main point was just about using an ATM to load BTC onto a self-custodial wallet without going through exchanges or KYC.
Thanks for pointing that out!

Do you pay with debit card or you can use cash? What's the limit you can load into your wallet on one transaction? Do you know what kind of fees you pay?

I paid in cash directly at the ATM, no card involved.
The machine I used allowed me to buy without any ID verification for small amounts.
As for limits, it depends on the ATM provider in my case, the no-KYC limit was around €1,000 per transaction.
The fee I paid was around 8–10%, which is pretty standard for Bitcoin ATMs when using cash.
It’s definitely higher than exchanges, but I was aiming for simplicity and privacy, so I was okay with it.

I mean if one wants full privacy yeah probably the best method is this one but damn 10% that's a lot of money lol

Be careful there aren't cameras around, cover your face with a baseball hat or something, disguise yourself that's to achieve real 100% privacy. Otherwise it's not really anonymous :)

Direct cash deposit to your BlueWallet or even to a sponsor's wallet would be a good thing IMO. I like this idea even though it costs more but at least you can then bypass the KYC annoyance as long as you don't use a debit card at the machine (some of these ATMs can take a debit card)!

A lot of the older atms run kyc after 500 unverified number, 1,00 verified, rolling lifetime.
The newer ones have you create accounts tied to either hardware or aged gmail, with non kyc limit of 300 lifetime.

I miss local bitcoins. It takes a lot more work to find consistent cash brokers these days.

That would mean using these ATM's sparingly if you want to avoid being asked for ID verification, so you might need multiple phone #'s or emails to avoid hitting the KYC.

Localbitcoins sadly is becoming filled with scammers and idiots.

If you're just using it to buy gear for personal use, using a wallet puts you leagues ahead of the game. I don't see any of the big exchanges a serious risk in this context. Complete anonymity is practically impossible (and not really worth the extra costs & jumping through hoops imo).

Maybe not complete anonymity but certainly more private.
