Zinc injections, particularly those using zinc chloride, can cause considerable tissue irritation due to their acidic pH. Therefore, they should only be used after proper dilution and are typically intended for intravenous use.

Direct intramuscular or intravenous injection of Zinc 1 mg/mL (Zinc Chloride Injection, USP) is contraindicated as the acidic pH of the solution (2) may cause considerable tissue irritation.
