You can buy 500ml vacuum bottles that you can use with a winged vacutainer infusion set.

This particular brand seems only available in Europe.

You can even use a 23g needle it you don’t mind waiting for like half an hour to fill 300ml.

But 21g should speed things up. Obviously also depends on the length of the tubing but if you are doing it on yourself I wouldn’t go shorter than 12 inches or it will make it even more awkward than necessary I think.

This is an alternative to the common 16g blood bag.

This is the only similar product I could find in the US.

Any thoughts, has anyone ever heard of this?

I use this with a 21g butterfly set.

It's a pain in the ass even with the pump. I used an aquarium dosing pump before that for maybe 10 years. Gravity helps a lot... the vacuum bottle would probably be similar. I absolutely hate doing it. I've lost count. Nowadays, a blood bank that isn't Red Cross will do double reds for me. Before that, Red Cross would look for reasons to not take a donation... and then they'd spam the fuck out of me begging for it. Fuck Red Cross. I did have to resume a few times due to being on a course of Accutane, but I'm way past that and can donate again.

Do you donate regularly and have you ever had problems with your ferritin? Seems for some people they can’t donate regularly.

I have spent years working on that balance and am very, very close. For me, what seemed to make the difference is first getting off expensive heme-iron like Proferrin ES. It never did shit for me.. $80 a month I blew for years. Simple Ferrex-150 works but with some caveats. Coffee is the absolute worst thing for iron absorption, so you can't take it anywhere near coffee. Second, taking it with Vitamin C greatly helps absorption. I get by with two capsules of Ferrex-150 a day, each with 1g of Ester C. First dose is mid-afternoon, well away from all coffee. Second dose is near bedtime. I think I hamstrung myself with coffee for a long time. Being anemic sucks and takes a very long time to get out of that hole. My iron/ferritin have improved every set of labs for over a year, and my blood chemistry is now rarely out of range with any (MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW). I usually can take my HCT to 58% before I start getting symptoms (small, localized random headaches). Then I'll schedule with the blood bank and donate. Looking back over my history, and it looks like a pretty close 12-week interval.

Vacuum bottles are a phenomenal idea!!

if you dont have access

Butterfly needle -> stopcock-> one stop cock valve -> 20ml syringe(be careful with too much pressure

other one to IV extension tubing that goes into a solo cup.

pull when the stopcock blocks the solo cup exit and push when it blocks the arm

fill the solo cup.

or could self bleed with a tourniquet 4 inches above the site of the insertion if the vein is big enough

500ml/1000ml

I'm actually considering to store my BU raws in those vacuum bottles lol. 1000ml seems easy to get but I'm looking for 500ml or smaller.

Nice find btw.
