Accutane permanent cure?

@JustJake @AllbrandNew @2ndchancesNK

So I don't normally get pimples. It's only on cycle with harsh DHTs. I've been wondering, assuming full course of 220mg/kg, will I have to deal with dry skin for life when off cycle or does sebum production normalize whether on or off cycle?
I don't know of many studies that look at chronic dry skin after treatment finishes, the only ones I've seen that look at this are either old AF or pretty low quality. Most studies on sebum productions are even older but generally showed recovery to normal for most patients.

I've read one or two 6 month courses of Accutane can permanently cure acne in a lot of cases.

Has this worked permanently for anyone with steroid induced acne?

I suspect a permanent cure isn't for the steroid induced type, but I'd like to know if it's worth a try given the nasty sides or just stick to Doxycycline, which is effective and no sides but temporary.
I’m on 80 mg daily. 40 am then 40 pm. It’s cleared it up a lot, but since I’ve bumped my test, it’s been showing up on my chest lately. Hate being on it. I kinda feel like I’m screwed….

The bulk of the face dryness went away about 2/3 of the way through the course,

If you do a deep dive, women with PCOS are likely to need multiple courses of accutane given their hormone imbalances, which is exactly what we are doing to an extent, just on a voluntary basis.

I was on about a gram of gear for a chunk of my Accutane run and it made almost no difference to my skin.

showed recovery to normal for most patients.

So you're saying I should perma blast. Consider it done.

Are you guys on cycle while on accutane? I am on 40 mg myself still in the purging phase but i really want to up my test to 300mg from cruise dose, i feel like it cant get any worse anyway.. would it be smarter to just jump right to 300 to avoid titrating with to much fluctuations?

Jumping in today, split dose 80mg to start. Plan is to increase 40mg every five days or so to max I can tolerate, ideally 200mg a day, just a little over 2mg/kg. Though I have rarely had to deal with dry skin from the warm Az climate I used to live in for 20 years, unsure how the sides will be. Hoping to get this done fast, sides willing, but I am going to try and push through it. Cannot keep doing the below, which just keeps my back acne less inflamed.

Doxy, clindamyacin 2x a day, alternate hibiclens/benzyl perox 3x a week.

How long have you been taking the accutane?

I’ve been cruising around 225mg test the whole time I’ve been taking it (10 weeks) and this week I’m titrating up my doses. Nothing crazy to speak of — 375mg test and 250mg mast. That has usually climbed to 675+/400+ test/mast, but I’m trying to keep total AAS load below 800mg until I drop below 100mg on the accutane (at 140mg right now).

@imthankful Congrats on starting and best of luck! Would definitely recommend a week or two at 80mg to feel it out, but definitely not required. What I noticed when I started at 40mg is that the sides came on fast for me and I never thought I would climb to 180-200mg, but I did, it was just short lived. The 120-150mg range has been much more manageable for me in all aspects. It appears that your body does get used to the drug to a degree and sides become less intense.

Much appreciated! Duly noted, may stick at the 80mg for a bit longer to get a better feel of it. Interesting, that was my thought as well - like most drugs you somewhat get used to it after a while. All in all hopefully they won’t be too bad, but won’t know til they come up - I’ll keep up to date in here - hope you have continued success with your course my friend!

so accutane has many other mechanisms which dries your skin and damages the skin barrier other than decreasing the sebum production

the sebum production getting lowered is what we want.

most people on accutane get heavily dry skin because of the other factors and most people in the studies make full recovery after a course in a week or two.

although its possible to deal with permanent dry skin afterwards theres also creams that can help your body release moisture and have less dry skin.

imo if you're not prone to dry skin before accutane you're likely not to have any issues, if you're prone to dry skin accutane is still worth it and treat dry skin while on + after accutane

the best thing you can possibly do is apply sunscreen while on accutane and moisteruize. it protects the skin barrier. just chill with it the risk is very low

+1 for sunscreen. Ive always despised it, but being forced to deal with skin issues I finally dug through some options till I found my current solution which I have been loving.

Cerave AM Facial Moisturizer with 50spf Amazon

Face feels and looks great using this stuff.

Okey i think i am gonna give it a try and just controll my estrogen and take saw palmetto for DHT , ive been on 1 and a half months:)

It's the dead of winter where I live so sunscreen isn't necessary yet but I got it on standby when spring hits. I just got some Cerave moisturizer. That shit is a game changer. Only a couple applications so far and my skin already feels and looks better from the dermatitis. Highly recommended for anyone on accutane or just in general as a skin protectant.
