I buddy of mine had very similar issues. Lithium and lexapro helped him tremendously. Unmedicated I have rage issues. I found magnesium glycinate could stop my explosive temper in its tracks. Keep trying different stuff, something will work and work well. He might even be able to thrive on Androgel if you succesfully treat the depression / mania.

I've realized thru trial and error that I have NEVER had naturally over 400-500 T levels and that level works quite well for me. I'm lean, healthy, strong, and calm at those levels. At 800-900, I began to sprout back hair and become pretty pissy and ready to fight. Seriously.

LOL. I have a decent disposition until I'm pushed too far. Then I snap, but it takes a lot for me to get this point. I think my disposition has been better since being at 900, than being at 380, when I started HRT.

I seriously think the womans husband needs some potent meds to calm him down. My wife's neice married a guy that turned out to be a real control freak asshole. It's become clear to all the counselors that are seeing them, that he needs psych meds to calm him down. For how freaky he's been acting, no one has taken his guns away from him. That really concerns me.

He first to admit to having the issue.
This would be the first step along with proper individual and couples counseling.
There are always 2 sides to the story..

Sorry but hormone imbalances go so far and there are other deeper issues at hands.
This thread is only painting a small picture of the real situation

Has his e2 been checked.
If some one has a pre existing mental issue high levels of e2 can make these issues worse.

Once as asshole more of asshole on higher testoserone with pre existing mental disorder.

I knew guys on 6-8 grams of gear a week and they are completely fine emotionally or anger issues. Roid rage is complete myth unless there is a pre existing issue

Same here. When my testosterone is low, I act like the mythical roid rage stereotype, but when my test levels are up within high normal range, I am very calm and controlled.
I need to start saving things when I read them, but I have read that men with low test are the ones who act like a**holes and correcting those low test levels usually reverses that problem. The theory was that estrogen to testoserone levels being out of balance is the cause of the problem.

I've been doing this a long time and I've never heard of a test for aromatase. There may be one, but even if it exists, having normal aromatase levels really isn't telling you how much of his testosterone is being converted to estrogen.
You need to know what his estrogen level is and that requires a "sensitive" assay. The normal estrogen test is useless for a male. Elevated estrogen levels can cause these issues in men. Think about grumpy old men in retirement homes. Where do you think their testosterone levels are compared to estrogen levels? If your doctor will not do it, you can get a sensitive estrogen test done yourself through LabCorp and you can schedule the test and where it is performed over the net. Many men will have issues when their E2 is over 30pg/dL.

IF he continues the androgel, you all may have better luck if he applies it immediately before going to bed. Then he has 7 to 8 hours of sleep before anyone has to deal with him.

He may do better with shots than the gel because the gels are notorious for raising DHT levels in addition to testosterone. The gels can raise DHT to 2 or 3 times above normal while the injections will raise test without raising DHT above normal.

Much of his story is similar to my own. In my case, once I was placed on HRT I have never needed a psychotropic medicine again. My issues wer caused by my low test levels.

It sounds like she is trying to avoid that scenario. That's the problem with the world today. We get married for better or for worse, but if we truly have to experience ANY slight amount of worse, we believe we have the right to quit.

But most importantly, they have been married for 20 years and this problem has only been going on since he started TRT or increased his psych meds. So, at the very least, she has told us that he has not always been this way.

You say, "it will not get better" as if he will never change and yet her story is about a guy who has changed. If he can change for the worse, he can change back to who he used to be, for the better.

I wonder if he has adrenal problems and drinks a lot of coffee or uses stimulants like redbull.

This is not a testosterone issue. This is not a thyroid or adrenal issue. This is a behavioral/emotional/psychological problem. I am acutely aware of the possibility of thyroid psychosis, etc., but this aint it.

This is clinical depression. Rage / anger is a hallmark sign of a severe brain imbalance. Call it behavioral, emotional, whatever you want. I have seen and experienced this myself. If SSRI dont alleviate the symptoms at all ( or make it worse ) you have to question whether its bipolar.
This type of depression is nothing to mess around with. It requires immediate professional attention.

Yup. Been there, got the T-Shirts to prove it.

In my case Androgel completely alleviated it. If I personally thought the Androgel was in any way responsible, I personally would be tempted to stop taking it altogether. If my response to the med has been counterproductive and exacerbating, then the treatment is worse than the cure. I work with 3 older gents (60+) who have started and stopped TRT because of various side effects. TRT is not the answer for everyone, but for those who need it it can be a lifesaver. ... Besides, GirlyMen are just generally much more pleasant to be around anyway. I personally miss the enjoyment I used to get from cooking, gardening, and embroidery. ... Nowhere near enough to give up TRT, though. ;)

What do you mean? Me, my brothers and our sons would threaten to beat the abusiveness out of him and let him know we will be back as necessary. Problem solved. Fucking old school. Not every asshole out there warrants the luxury of a psychiatrist. Assholes are nothing if not responsive to their own protection. ;)

It's obvious this chick doesn't have that luxury. I think if this guy wanted to change he would have made some headway over the course of a year.

Few of us want to change. We are usually compelled to by exigent circumstances. I know I am.
