Deadlifts with a spinal fuse!

Deadballs

I really enjoyed my deadlifts today. It was the first time I've done them properly. I did train for a couple of years some 10 years ago but atm I'm just in my 2nd week of getting back into it.

I'm only 74 kilos and 6ft so very slim and 8-9% body fat. I don't intend to get huge and I don't think I could if I wanted to cos I've got a fast metabolism and echtomorphic frame but 85 kilos is my aim and most importantly to be strong and healthy and solidify my back so I don't get so much pain at work.

As I said I feel great today and my back feels amazing. It's like it's had all the tension taken out of it. However, I've been reading alot about the revered deadlift and now I'm a little bit worried perhaps I shouldn't be doing it.

Today I did 3 sets. 8 x 70 kilos, 5 x 90 and 4 x 90. I could have done a couple more but I wasn't 100% I wouldn't lose form if I did so I thought better of it. What do you guys reckon? Should I continue to do them as they do feel right or am I taking a risk??

Cheers

hard to say mate, depends on how you feel? keep it light and very gradual. make sure you keep your IT band well stretched as well and all other leg/hip stretches, as this is the number one culprit for lower back pain from squats/deads caused by pulling the lower spine out of alignment. spinal fuse is beyond my scope.

i had desperate trouble with lower back for a good bit there, but set aside a 'rehab' day for stretches and after just 2wks of this, im back up to 270kg x 3 with no discomfort.

good luck.

It's ok but, back off at the FIRST SIGN of pain or discomfort and DO NOT EVEN THINK about doing forced lifts with altered body mechanics or posture!
:)

Cheers guys I'll definitely carry on with it. Back aches today all the way from top to bottom but in a healthy muscular way. I loved the buzz I got from doing them yesterday. Drained and invigorated at the same time!
