Just got banned from IM for questioning Z

Yes stretch, that is all IM is good for; reading the very little useful info they provide.
Why anyone would want to be part of a board that condones shills awes me.

The sponsors' forums are essentially paid advertisements. The goal of an advertisement is to make the sponsor look good. THere really shouldn't be an expectation of uncensored discussion in these advertisers' subforums. But there is a need for this and there are uncensored forums and subforums for this purpose.

Right. But to maintain integrity shouldn't the forums do their due diligence in researching the sources they accept ad dollars from? Ala AB?

I personally have a problem with board owners who assume the so called its advertising space, "I or my board has no involvement"......but yes I accept the hell out of your money...

I don't think that some forums are as open as they should be about just how much they make from having paid sponsors....... Like was already said, I also think that a forum has a responsibility to monitor and research just who they are allowing to set up shop. If a Forum is allowing a sponsor to lie for the purpose of ripping off members, IMHO that forum is equally as responsible for the ripoff.

While I'd love to have an advertisement-free website, advertising is a necessary (evil) to achieve my objectives of steroid education. Advertisers make this possible. And for that, I am grateful to them.

This is no way represents an endorsement of any company advertised on this website (and never has). Advertisers are simply paying for an opportunity to receive exposure to a particular audience. The burden rests firmly on them to prove themselves to the audience. This is how advertising has worked throughout the history of the publishing industry. Why it should be any different on steroid forums, I have no clue.

I think this was an excellent post by Millard a few years ago and it is so very true. You are responsible for who you chose to buy your goods and services from not the forum.

Millard, as you know, I am not a fan of censorship (duh!). I am stringently and stridently opposed to any censorship of online discussions. Seldom a day goes by that I don't mourn the demise of usenet.

That said, I'm also a realist. Boards exist because someone pays the bills. It can be either members or advertisers but someone has to pay. If a sponsor buys a sub forum, I believe they have a reasonable expectation they'll be able to ensure their company is presented in the possible light and that usually means they have editorial powers in their sub forum. Although I don't like it, I can reluctantly accept it because I am aware they've purchased the space and I expect any commentary therein will be biased. Maybe placing a disclaimer of sorts at the top of the sub forum stating the sponsor might delete negative reviews, etc would be helpful.

What I am unable to accept, and I think you feel the same way, is the form of censorship that exists on boards that have given sponsors the power to edit negative reviews beyond their "purchased" sub forum. These are the infamous "scammer boards" that have given up their integrity for money. They are complicit in the scam because they've been "paid off" to turn a blind eye to the advertisers antics. There are many examples of the boards "knowingly" accepting the same scamming source back as a sponsor under a new name allowing the scam to continue. They are despicable.
