Winded when lifting

I had one of those moments today at the gym where I looked around and noticed something - I was the only one seemed winded after a set.

I'm 6'5" and 270 lbs and have been working out for 2 years. I do some serious cardio pushing sleds and running as well as basic compound lifts and some kettlebell work. I can run 3 miles fairly easily at this point and can run 1 mile on an incline of 3% at 7mph (not easily but not too bad). I can do 5x50 yards prowler pushes and pulls with 270lbs on the sled (here I'm breathing hard). In other words fairly good cardiovascular health for a big guy.

When I do deadliest, squats, bench and even triceps I'm breathing very hard during the set. With deadliest and squats sometimes out of breath by the end of the set.

Looking around today I saw a bunch of people lifting heavy and none of them seemed out of breath. I'm sure their HR was up but I was the only lifter who seemed like I was breathing heavy. I'm doing heavy weight and low reps for most things......just wonder if there's anything to glean from this observation? Too heavy, too many reps, I just suck and I'm not in as good a shape as I think?

The only time when I'm out of breath is when I go heavy and for low reps on a compound movement like the squat and deadllift. I think you're out of breath because your body's blood pressure shoots up really fast during the lifts.

Some of these big fucks aren't even sweating while I'm dripping....lol. I mean they look like they're working hard during the set but then they just pop up like it's nothing with no heavy breathing.

LOL. I know I'm putting in work when I'm sweating and puffing, otherwise I have to turn up the intensity []==[]

I am the same way. I sweat like a river and I am always huffing and puffing too. I dont know what it is but it seems as if I am more winded. But a few deep slow breaths and I am back to normal.

It's normal for me, you got nothing to worry about. I always get out of breathe especially deadlifting and squatting. Also during power clean or clean and press. They are taxing, and If your pushing yourself and upping the weight of course your going get outta breathe. Those lifts use every muscle in your body with heavy weight. Now if you were huffing and puffing while curling I would say your out of shape.

I think Id is on trt. I know he's lost a lot of weight.

I always sweat like an Arab in an Airport when I lift. It's called intensity. And I'm huffing and puffing, especially after sets of squats and deadlifts. I also use the valsalva technique when doing compound movements, so that will make you short of breath.

I need to be hot and loose when I'm lifting. If I'm not sweating I feel tight. I usually wear a cut up hoodie when I'm lifting when it starts getting cold out.

6'5 270 is a giant frame. Do you have trouble gaining mass? What kind of cycle are you on?

Just on TRT ATM and while getting bigger (more muscular and stronger) my diet definitely limits my ability to gain size.....but that's what I designed it to do. When I hit 250lbs I'd like to try a month of increased calories (still good food - no crap) with a little increased test cyp see what happens.

I started out lifting to lose weight and feel better but I'm getting the "get bigger" bug with a touch of dysmorphia. I saw a friend at the gym after an arm workout and he kept going on about how big my arms are....I assured him that was just the pump and they deflate about 30% over the course of the day....he didn't buy it.

To me my arms are bigger than a guy not working out but not all that big. Then again I was watching Predator last night and thought Arnold looked like a skinny bitch....so.....

Old Painless is waiting. He wants to talk to you about these lies...

Arnold id have to "shrink" for his acting roles. They said he was to big...

Hey IDMD, have you had you hematocrit level checked recently? My cardio has gone to shit in the past 1.5- 2months and I noticed being short of breath during lifts. My H level was 52, but I got rid of a pint of blood and I feel a little better.

Fuck'en A gigantor! I just got winded thinking how far you move that weight for a normal rep... Little fucks like myself have it easy!

I have days where I get winded too. I think it just happens to all of us at some point depending on a bunch of factors, IMO

I had hematocrit done 3 months ago and it was just over range 50.5. Went to give a pint two days ago and hemoglobin was 17.8 so a little high. Haven't lifted since donating but I'll see tomorrow.

Not sure it's an issue as I'm not winded at all for any cardio (other than the prowler).

Yup....the physics for us big guys just isn't in our favor. Have to move weight greater distances, the weight is always further from the fulcrum due to a longer lever arm requiring more force to move the same weight, etc

How much Test C per week are you on?

Arnold had a giant frame too, He was over 6"1 I believe. It's hard to believe that arnold only weighed 235 contest. Compared to Ronnie at 280 contest and only being 5'11. Or jay was 5'9 270 contest.. Arnolds Biceps were better than both of theirs IMO, escpecailly his right bicep. Freaky big.
