I used to think that the 6-10 rep range was best but I notice I get way better results in the 10-12 rep range. I do a combination of both for my workout but no matter how hard I lift, I always feel like my workout wasn't that great. I don't know if its all in my mind because I see results but I never feel like I get a good workout. I think the reason for this could be that I go to the gym everyday by myself. I never can do that last rep that will really kill the muscle without a spot. I'm talking about the rep after you are already exhausted, the one you need a little bit of help with. I never get to this but I remember feeling like I got great workouts when I went with a partner.

Your goal isnt to "kill the muscle," it should be to stimulate it enough to grow. Also, the difference between 8 or 10 or 12 reps is minimal at best.

I think you should invest some time reading the stickies up top on this board. Get a good foundation of knowledge on how good programs are arranged. Then give one a shot (the 5x5 is easy to implement). You will find your obsession with 10 vs. 12 reps and getting someone to help you with that last bit of burn each workout quickly goes away in the face of drastically supperior gains.

Of course the alternative is to keep doing what you are doing now - unfortunately most people go that route or find someone else to tell them what they want to hear (and it should be easy, the gyms and bodybuilding boards are full of morons). If you actually want to gain knowledge, get bigger/stronger or perform better I would caution against locating a 'yes man' and laying aside the issue.
