Dopers in Uniform - Cops on Steroids by John Hoberman, PhD

As the U.S. Congress continues its assault on anabolic steroid use among professional athletes, longtime observers of doping control initiatives will recognize the selective indignation that continues to sensationalize the use of these drugs by athletes. The fact that certain groups of steroid consumers have been spared the special opprobrium reserved for sports heroes who fail to serve as proper "role models" for youth demonstrates once again how arbitrary and politically motivated the formulation and enforcement of drug laws can be. One of the remarkable anomalies of the anti-steroid campaign of the past two decades is that it has virtually ignored the many reports of steroid use by police officers in the United States and in other countries.

"One of the remarkable anomalies of the anti-steroid campaign of the past two decades is that it has virtually ignored the many reports of steroid use by police officers in the United States and in other countries. Unknown but clearly significant numbers of policemen have imported, smuggled, sold, and used anabolic steroids over this time period."

Anomalie? As civil servants of the lowest order in the justice system who enjoy a reputation with the masses as dubious as most criminals, the anomalie is lost on me...

In 2000 or 2001, a police officer was busted for importing, selling and using GH, here in Honolulu, Hawaii. Therefore indirectly screwing any man who needs hormone replacement therapy. Before it became FDA/DEA law, it became illegal here in Hawaii to prescribe GH for off-label purposes.

a buddy of mine is a cop - (in ontario, canada) ... i asked him how he got so jacked ... he sais -bottom line - its illegal to sell steroids, but to posess them in small amounts is perfectly fine ...

steroid use among cops is a pretty common thing

As far as I know, use is also prevalent among correctional officers. Can't fault those guys, though.:D

higher standard my ass. regardless of who you are this crack down and even the regulation of steroid use is total bullshit. If there were some inkling of intelligence in the upper echelon of government, they would legalize and tax steroids just as they do cigarettes. Have them generate revenue instead of cost and putting tax paying citizens in jail is a fucking joke. They gave up on prohibition b/c the people in charge liked their booze too. Our problem is that our government officials are misinformed and looking for a quick political boost

I guess I good question to ask ourselves, would be, should they be held to a higher standard?

Yes they should be held to a higher standard. BUT the real question is what is wrong if they get their hands on steriods LEGALLY. When you call for help, regardless of your need, do you want someone in shape and full of energy or someone with no energy only hearing every third word you are saying.

Hell, can you? A C/O is usually stuck in a unit by themselves with at least 100 inmates. You'd have to be jacked to be able to perform your job. Not to mention that some prisons still let inmates lift weights. Most C/O's that lift are at a dissavantage because these inmates lift in someway or another (iron weights, push-ups, water bags, ect..) all day compared to the C/O that can pretty much lift only his off time. What would you rather have working a prison keeping these inmates in line, a 150lb-185lb C/O or a 250lb jacked C/O? I honestly feel that Cops, Military, Correctional Officers and Firefighters should be given some flexablility when it comes to using gear. thats just my two cents.

I agree with you to a certain point. Cops and military personnel shouldn't have any excess to steroids. How would you like getting slam to the pavement for speeding by some "jacked up" cop? Or being shot at with a M60 machine gun with the rounds whizzing over your head by some 'jacked up" Marine just for fun? Personal Experience Here! Very easy to get 'roids in the service. How about some 'jacked up" fighter pilot unloading is missiles just for fun?! "Er, sorry sir"! Correction officers and firefighters really need the stuff more than anything. I applied for corrections officer, but took a backseat after a walkthrough of a facility that I may have gotten as my first post. I looked like a goddamn skinny ass wimp next to these prisoners and even all the martial training in the world wouldn't save my skinny ass! So now I take AAS to close this gap in size. I'm going to re-apply for corrections and try county sheriff also. I don't won't to work as a city cop because I might end up beating and killing too many folks. LOL

I highly doubt a marine did that just for fun BUT some of them are...retartedly nuts.

I know a few CO's and only one of them is buff. 1 uses roids, suprisingly not the buff one. They all do fine.

While walk down the road in Okinawa, my squad and I sat down for some rest. I can't remember this asshole's name, but I can still see the look he had on his face when about five to six Okinawans was walking by us. This fucker jumps up M60 in his hands and he starts shooting over their heads! And he was fucking laughing while he was doing this. Everyone else laughed too except me because it was dangerously stupid and degrading to those people!
