So I made the pilgrimage to see Dr. Overbeck and HAN yesteday. I am having some thyroid, adrenal and testosterone issues. I met with HAN first. He has some unique experience in testing endocrine function via muscle testing. Based on my experience most of his tests seemed to jive with the issues I was having. It will be interesting to match up his results form the blood tests that they do.
After chatting with HAN for a while they brought me back to a room and Dr O's wife came in to speak to me. It was purely social and she was a nice lady. The staff there was really pleasant which I can't say for all Dr's offices I've been to. Shortly thereafter, I went in to see Dr. O. He is a really laid back, receptive guy. He asked questions and listened to me for about an hour. HAN was with me in the room. It is clear that Dr O respects HAN and his knowledge when he interjected in the meeting.
I left there with a bunch of tests that were relevant to my conditions. It is nice to have a set of comprehensive tests that are relevant. Before going to Dr O I have always had to fight tooth and nail for the docs to Rx bloodwork. Obviously, Dr is in touch with symptoms and is smart enough to run the right tests to uncover any problems. There were some tests that I requested that he could not run namingly an ATCH stimulation test. I told him that my endo would not run that test for me. Dr O told me that he would have no problem writing a letter and speaking to my endo to personally request those tests were run. I thought that was cool. There were some other tests I requested that they don't typically run in their initial round of tests but we agreed they were important as well and they said they would include them. I liked that because it shows me they are not a cookie cutter shop and they have some flexibility in their approach. I think in order for me to have a successful outcome getting all of the proper tests is very important.
Obviously, I have have met with them once so I can't draw any conclusions yet but I can say we are moving in the right direction. I am very interested to see the outcome of my testing and where Dr O and HAN steer the treatment. Based on the discussions I had I am feeling optimistic that it is moving in the right direction. I get the sense that my opinion is respected and that it they are working with me as opposed to being 'dictators' like most docs are. After I get my get my test results back I will follow up some more.
