29yr old male with very low libido and almost no sexual sensation

I'm a 29yr old male who has never used AAS. The only serious drug i have taken in my life was accutane between the age of 20-22. My libido and sexual sensation has been declining gradually since the age of 25. Over the last 6 months, my libido has become extremely low. I have difficulty getting an erection, and when i do, i can never hold it for too long. What is perhaps most disturbing, however, is an almost complete loss in sexual sensation. Intercourse does not feel pleasurable to me at all. I may as well have an artificial penis attached to me. I find it very difficult to ejaculate, and if i do, it does not feel pleasurable.
I can't work out what has gone wrong with me. I feel quite healthy in other respects, I'm not under stress, my sleeping, eating and exercise habits are all normal. Body weight has remained the same, although strength levels are definitely down. I'm also not quite as energetic as I once was.
Obviously, it would be a good idea to consult my doctor, but before I do, can anyone guess what might be going on? Also, if I need to have some tests done, which ones should I have in case my doctor doesn't know which tests to order?
Thanks.

other drugs?

Are you taking any other drugs or supplements? Especially anti-depressants? Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac, etc?

When you go to the doctor, make certain that he does labs for free testosterone and estradiol (sensitive) in addition to whatever labs he already wants to do.

I was on Accutane as a teenager and last year discovered the I have low testosterone, but still within the normal range. While I was on the Accutane, I had sometimes just wanted to die for no apparent reason. Might the Accutane be a contributing factor to low testosterone? Perhaps. Would I take Accutane again? Without a doubt.

you want the following:
total testosterone
free testosterone
weekly bound
estradiol
dht
cortisol
tsh
liver
white and red blood cell, glucose, and of course a complete lipid profile. do not ask for the test, demand them! they are there for you,you are not there for them.

i was in your situation after a very long term period of abstinence. no one interetested me, so i kept it in my pants. eventually, my mind went off of sex and onto other things.

then, i hopped back into the sack with a chick, and i had your almost exact problem.

sex was strange and alien. uncomfortable and akward. i just wanted to hurry up and come or quit.

what got me back into the swing was her having a sense of humor about it, and me being very honest as to why i thought it was going on. so, for a few weeks the sex was lackluster, but i made sure to give oral liberally. she was into me for me, and that made a big difference as far as attitude.

life being what it is, we couldnt be together all the time. so i pretty much fucked her silly while i was around, then had a few days or a week without her.

over the period of about 2 and a half months, i went from almost functionally impotent, to minor ED, to pretty much back to a 16 year old. it took time, but i now have no trouble getting and maintaining a full erection throughout the entire sexual act. thats something most guys whove never had problems have trouble with.

i can say now that mine was a 'use it or lose it' problem. i had almost totally disconnected from my sexuality, and it took some time to reconnect. the effects are cascade, and too numerous to name here. but, if what im saying sounds familiar, hit me with a PM and well talk more in depth.

i almost made the mistake of becoming reliant on HRT, because i was convinced that my test had up and left me LOL.

as it stands now, no one has any complaints. indeed, its a personal triumph and a testament to patience and understanding.

i would imagine like many ppl who suffered or are suffering with ED, it really hurt my whole outlook on women. after i became aware that things had went south on me, out of no where seemingly, i took a dark opinion on the ladies.

there was hatred and jealousy there, certainly. but the biggest thing with me is, im going to be alone the rest of my life. im not talking about, well im not getting married. im talking about never having a close female relationship ever again.

im a young guy, who dates older girls. these women are not going to accept this. to a man who hasnt gotten married and was basically single, ED is a death sentence. you can only imagine the infidelity sure to be rampant in your relationships.

i was scared and pissed off. i had started going bald early, and here was another problem traditionally associated with age visited upon me, a young man. i didnt have the guts to tell any of the women i knew, lest it get out. lest i be laughed at, if not to my face behind my back.

its quite a secret to carry around. its almost like being a criminal on the run, because you are seperated by a thing only you know. you soon become apart from them, and them is the entire fucking world.

until i met the girl im currently with, i had made the desicion that i just wasnt going to date... ever. having this sort of talk with her before having sex wasnt easy, and i gave her the option to back out with no hard feelings on either side. i just asked that she keep this secret between us, and we could go on our merry ways. she said wed figure a way around it. and we did.

its not an easy thing to come to grips with, and luckily my issues werent of a medical nature. but dont do what i did, and this goes for everyone who reads this. do whatever it takes, even TRT, even viagra, to help yourself. the time wasted is what bothers me the most now.

upward and onward.

It's not in his head, damnit.

I have the same problem, and I'm only 23. Here's why it's NOT in the head: Certain days, maybe once per month, I will awaken with normal horomone levels. I'll feel energized and excited. The same exact female (or even pornography) will be MAGNITUDES more attractive. Sex will suddenly feel good. It only lasts a few days, though. Then, I'm back to what the originator of this post described. Like him, I was on Accutane at 16, along with ten or so anti-depressants (not all at once, obviously.) I do not blame them, though, because I had been noticing my libido decline ever since I was 14.

We're not shy or uncomfortable or unattractted to our girlfriends -- we have HORMONAL PROBLEMS!

great post. its all about the hormones. if the hormones are fine then depression is usually the culprit.

Accutane...

Hmmm. I was on accutane as well a few years back and was recently diagnosed with low T. Do I see a trend??

I also used Accutane when I was 15 or 16 for about 3-5 months. I had some severe bouts of depression that I never sought council for (or took anti-depressants for), as well.
I doubt there is a connection between the two, but who knows

Perhaps. On the other hand, I don't want to take action that will cause Accutane to be removed from the market. It is literally the only solution to bad acne for many people. However, that isn't really an excuse for not investigating such. It would be very interesting to do hormone tests prior, during, and after treatment with Accutane.

I was on accutane too

I was on accutane also back in 1980. I was a test participant. Now
look at me. No acne but also no testosterone.

Michael T,

Thanks for your replies. I've also discovered on some other sites that other people who have taken accutane in the past have low testosterone down the track. I don't think it's just a coincidence.
Anyway, supposing i do test low on testosterone, would I be wasting my time by visiting a Naturopath to seek a way to boost my test levels naturally?
I don't like the idea of taking testosterone, since even in small amounts, it shuts down the body's own production, which really forces you to stay on it for life right?
Are things like tribulus and ZMA useless? Is there anything you can take that tricks the body into thinking it doesn't have enough testosterone, so as a result stimulates its own production?
Thanks.

One other thing that no one has touched on so far is my lack of sexual sensation. This is actually the most scary thing for me, as I am able to atleast get an erection some of the time. The problem is that I have no pleasurable sensation during intercourse at all! Does anyone know what might be causing this?
Thanks.

if you have low T levels, you need testosterone(bottom line!!!). if fertility is an issue, that can be restored using hcg and some other compounds. as for taking hrt for life, its much more dangerous to your health NOT to take T . low T levels are associated with heart disease, bone loss and a whole host of other ailments. as for no sensitivity, thats due to low T as wll. smarten up and get checked out.

Supplements only do so much.

I tried the wholistic approach for about 5 months. Using tribulus,DHEA,
horny goat weed, maca, vitamin C,D,E,B, You name it I tried it. I also had absolutley no feeling in my scrotum. Supplements for me did only about
25 % improvement. Being on hrt is a must if you do test low. You will feel
better and sensations will start returning with proper replacement.

Michael T, :)

I had this problem for yrs. then I had my E2 Estradiol tested and it was dam high. Took Arimidex one half a one mg. pill everyday for 4 weeks and my ED got 80% better and I could reach an orgasm for the first time in over 10 yrs. Now I am on TRT doing 150 mgs. of Depo T shots every week and 500 IU's of Hcg 3 times a week. I am 61 it gets up now any time I need it and some times if I am not careful I come to fast. I lost over 10 yrs. of my sex life to high E2. If your E2 is to high and you get it down your T levels will go up 200 to 300 points on a blood test. This is what worked for me give it a try and get tested.
