5x5 - Subbing DL's for SLDL's?

For the third time, I hurt my lower back a little over a week ago doing deadlifts. This is the second time that it has occurred as a result of DL's. This problem arised from playing lacrosse (at least that's when I first got injured). Im thinking of taking out DL's and subbing in SLDL's. For me, I feel they are actually better than straight DL's and a whole lot safer and better for my lower back. Do you feel this is a big mistake or the best way to go? Gonna try to get back in the gym light tomorrow after a 1.5wk layoff....
