70% alcohol bath for media bottles and caps stoppers

I have a big stainless bowl for my alcohol soak for my media bottle and a separate for caps and stoppers , do you guys ditch the alcohol after or re use it ?

I re-use it in my alcohol burner lamp, but i don't brew often enough to feel like it is worth reusing for sterilization and it is cheap as fuck to boot.

I only brew every 6-18 months. I guess if you were brewing every week or something it might make more economic sense.

Someone brewing that much would be selling though and I would at least HOPE they wouldn't be looking to cut these sort of corners.

It’s the media bottle that is sterilized and stores filtered gear in , I filter directly into it . I clean it with alconex , distilled water , alcohol bath , then oven bake

again, you don't need to do alcohol baths, it is a waste of time. You want to old sKool sterilize, put bottles in oven at 130degrees Celicius, and bake for 30min. It will be sterilized. Or get yourself an autoclave..

Not everyone is going to spring for an autoclave and putting media bottles in the oven is fine but tis EXACTLY as much hassle (or more) than using alcohol to sanitize.

I just thought the same thing. Looking at his post history… wow what an amazing contribution to the community. On the ignore list he goes. I don’t think I’ll miss anything monumental from him.
