A question for the computer savvy

I have Windows Media Player, and I can play most files with the avi extension, but there are some that will not work. Is says that it tries to download a codec but fails to do so and all I can hear is the sound. I thought I had the newest version, but I don't know. Does anyone know where to download free codecs so that I can play more videos on WMP.

LOL .....no habla microsoft.

in my past experience, if the codec does not load, then the codec is not available. You should have a Windows Update icon somewhere on your machine, go there and let the site scan your machine to see what updates are applicable......or just shitcan your WMP and get the latest version....which is 9 isnt it???

Ok... LOL

some avi files might have a diff version of the codec you are looking for... divx has loads of versions... xvid only has a few but still ...

to save you the trouble... go here and download the latest version... i think its 7... this player will play just about any file i have ... corrupted or not... its by far the best player i have run accross in my life...

I hope that helps...

fuck microsoft and windows media player... only good thing about the WMP is that it can do 32 bit.. but other than that... big fuckin whoop... if you need any other codecs tell Bob smith to get me on AIM and ill come back and hook you up with any codec you need ;-)

lata bro

I guess I just needed to get the newest DivX bundle of codecs off of the site. Downloading this solved the problem. I'll try out that player you were talking about and see how I like it.
