You're not going to get a handle on this by controlling hormones, certainly not while using gear.
Cleaning and topical antibacterials will help keep it in check, but one slip up and it's back with a vengeance.
Sun exposure reduces the appearance of acne temporarily by causing excess drying, but actually damages the skin in a way that makes it worse in the long term,
Antibiotics like 100mg/day Doxycycline are far more effective than any of the above, but that's a long term commitment, will wreck havoc with your digestion by slowly destroying healthy gut bacteria, and the moment you stop, there will be a nasty rebound.
You are either susceptible to this problem or not, and use of gear is the gasoline on the fire.
IMO, the best solution is isotretinoin (accutane) which slowly, permanently shrinks the oil glands that are at the root of the problem.
The old protocols required high daily doses with the potential of harsh side effects, to quickly get to a certain amount of total exposure based on body weight, like 10,000 mg for a 200lb person, to achieve a 90% chance of permanent cure.
For non-severe cases of acne, New Zealand figured out that a very low dose, 10mg a day (vs 90mg/day for a 200lb person) taken until acne is cleared + 2 to 4 months resolved acne permanently in 60-70% of cases, with nearly no side effects, and no need for regular blood tests, which is how it's prescribed there today. If acne does return, you can do another "cycle" which raises the odds of a permanent cure significantly.
Do not use a tetracycline antibiotic (like Doxy) while on accutane, it can in rare cases cause brain swelling.
It *must* be taken with a high fat meal, without that 80% may go unabsorbed. High fat is ideally 50% calories from fat.
Finally, UGL accutane is in dry tabs. all pharma accutane suspends it in oil in a gelcap, because it degrades quickly in dry form. The pharma generics like Accufine can be found for less than $5 for a months 10mg supply and is the smarter way to go.
After 6 weeks at 10mg my bacne is 90% clear, my back and scalp doesn't get greasy a couple of hours after a shower, and the only side I've had was very slight dry lips in the first couple of weeks.
Good luck.
PS: The extra 2 to 4 months is variable because accutane also speeds up turnover of skin. The extra time allows a chance for this process to reduce any acne scars left on the skin.
