Adding BA

I see some people do it from the get go and others add it later on the process. Is there a temperature range that you guys suggest for adding it in so it doesn't burn off?

As long as you keep the heat low (100-150f)this shouldn't be a problem and you don't need that high of heat to reach a homogenous solution. I add it all together with bb and powder at ounce and have never had sterility issues. If you use a syringe filter into sterilized sealed vials your risk is very low to compromise sterility

Any of you guys ever use .5% BA instead of the 1-2% standard? Trying to keep the BA to a minimum.

I usually do, it will add minor pip but you get used to it. Anything to make sure you keep it bacteriostatic. Others might disagree.

Are you using syringe filtering, bottle top or autoclave?

I mean .5% BA. The PIP with BA at more than 2% cripples me. Very sensitive to it. I know most Pharmacy grade test is .9% so my thinking is that .5% or .75% might be able to get the job done.

Im newer to brewing so just using syringe filters for now. Wouldn't mind spending $ on a better filter option if it results in cleaner product though.

Eh syringe filters are great, I always break bottle tops and crimping can be a hassle with anything larger. Just don't cheap out, I average 2 .22's per 30ml.

I wouldn't recommend going too low on BA, the pip you get from it is infinitely better than the abscess you'll get if infection starts.

Copy that, brotha. Any particular .22 filters you'd recommend? I've used whatamans when I converted Fina pellets way back in the day. I did some looking but couldn't find any.

Haha dude I remember when people used to crush those pellets and run them through a coffee filter with vegetable oil, and we're going on semantics of BA content.

Anything .22 is good, I like the Millipore yellow rims. They all start to crack with too much pressure. Stick with 3-5ml syringes, anything bigger takes way too much force and somehow I end up leaking a lot of oil.

My guy! Appreciate all the help!

Only tips I've got are make sure to aspirate the vial while you're filtering, heat your gear only enough to dissolve every crystal (really low heat for tren) and wear gloves or your hands will smell like BB for a couple days.

So you change the syringe filter on average every 15 ml? That’s a lot of filters and potentially a lot of wasted oil. I have zero problem pushing 60 ml’s through one filter.

I have literal kilos of raws (plz no shoot dog DEA) and a Costco membership to buy MCT oil, I would rather waste some oil than fuck my day up trying to push oil through a mildly spent filter.
