Amlodipine Edema

I know a possible side effect of Amlodipine is edema in the legs and ankles. But has anyone gotten edema in their arms/hands? I take 20mg Telmisartan and I added 5mg Amlodipine 1 week ago as I start a new cycle. My BP has been high for a couple of days so I increased Amlodipine to 10mg last night. Around 1:30AM I woke up with swelling and pain in my right hand and arm. I’ve never had edema so I can only assume that’s what it was. It felt like my hand was going to burst. Pins/needles and heat down my arm and hand. It took hours for the swelling and pain to subside. I’ve been fine all day and I plan to skip the Amlodipine tonight. It has a 30-50 hour half life so if it caused my issues last night the fun might not be over yet.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Could Carpal tunnel cause something like that? I’m also skipping GH today/tonight until I am past this issue.

I've never seen reports of arm swelling. All references to amlodipine edema are to ankle and below,

Could be the combo of HGH and amlodipine building on each other's edema sides.

Also, the usual step up is 40 Telm / 5 Amlodipine.

I tried 40mg Telmisartan stand alone in December and my potassium go out of range. It took me 2 months to get it back within range. I might need to research another add on to Telmisartan.

Are you getting locally or ordering from India PCT?

There's a 4th gen (amlodipine is 3rd gen) CCB. thats just as effective without the potential edema. But it's only available in Asia (Iapan, Korea; India).

Cilnidipine

10mg equal to 5mg Amlodipine

I have both local and India Pharm. I am taking local Telyrx Amlodipine at the moment. I’ll look at Cilnidipine tonight. I need to make an order for some other things anyway. Thanks!

Yes, it swells my left hand up like a balloon, the right side marginally. Feet and ankles definitely.. I didn't have the pain you describe though, but it could be the sudden increase in edema causing that.. I no longer use this medication. If you are concerned talk to a Doctor.

TLDR:

Equally effective for BP reduction, 90% lower incidence of swelling.

It's not in their catalogs, so you'll have to ask PCT24x7 for it, but 20mg (equivalent to 10mg Amlodipine) tabs should be cheap.

I like Healing Pharma, but you could just ask for whichever brand is cheapest, Please let us know how much you're quoted for it, considering it myself. May want to specify a box (10x10) so you get a better price.

It’s reassuring to know at least one person here has experienced edema in their hands on Amlodipine. Time to switch to something else. Thanks for responding!

Since the risk of edema increases with age, as well as Amlodipine works and reduces the risk of cardiovascular events, I'd love to shift into its successor that does the same excellent job but significantly lowers the potential edema sides.

I asked for a quote from 24x7 and the Zone. I’ll let you know what they tell me.

PCT 24x7 Quote
5 mg x 10 tabs - 0.60$
10 mg x 10 tabs - 0.80$
20 mg x 10 tabs - 1$

Ben at the Zone is checking to see if they can get it.

Why not nebivolol? Plus I would increase telmisartan to at least 40mg before increasing amlodipine or even adding it.

40mg telmi 5mg nebivolol should probably fix your issue with 0 side effext

Yeah bro, it looks freakish when your hands blow up like an obese washer woman and you are relatively lean.. I do tend to get this with most CCB's, but Amlodipine and Felodipine are next level when it comes to hand edema.. I'm using a combo tablet of Candesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide now and it's got my BP in a good range with no edema.

Yes but ghoul you are better than this.. first line therapy means you can use that as the first medication.

That's stupid and I didn't suggest that.

What I suggested is first to increase telmisartan. 20mg is an entry level dosage and he kept that and increased amlodipine instead of increasing telmisartan.

Plus he is a bodybuilder, second nebivolol is on a class of it's own, can't be compared to the other beta blocker.

You can easily find and you probably have already read studies of nebivolol Vs amlodipine and how nebivolol gave the same results with a much better profile on the side effect side.

Especially for a BB nebivolol is superior IF you can keep your BP in check with it.

So I would first increase telmisartan to 40mg, then add 5mg nebivolol and if it's still not enough go for 80mg telmisartan.

At that point unless you are blasting grams after grams and doing no cardio or have some genetic predisposition for high BP you should be perfect on the BP department.

What we wanna achieve is the least sides effect and a good BP.

I increased Telmisartan to 40mg in December. My labs two weeks later had my potassium out of range. I dropped back down to 20. January slightly out of range and this month finally in range. I like Telmisartan but 20 is the limit.
