An updated guide to internet privacy and anonymity

I've been banned from several PC games I'm told it's a mac address ban, is there any easy way to change a mac address ?
It either could be HWID or MAC address.
Both can get spoofed, look for HWID/MAC address spoofing, there are open source tools on GitHub that can do this for you.

I've started using Whonix, which is like Tails. It routes everything you do over Tor, not just Tor Browser.

With Whonix you have to do some setting up which will turn a lot of people off. Tails is good to go out of the box, but a lot of stuff doesn't work on it like Session.

You can still be easily tracked if you use only Tor. VPN -> Tor -> VPN for the next level paranoia whonix setup. The VPNs themselves can also be multi-hop.

What do you mean "tracked"? Everything you do is using a different exit node so there's no correlation unless you do something dumb, with a VPN everything goes through the same one.

The difference is them knowing that "someone" did "this, and "someone" did "that" VS. them knowing the same person did "this and that"

lol you don't think the feds have 0days to deanon you?

I don’t think there has been anyone to date who has shown up in the news who used whonix. Not so for tails

lol I see a lot of weird ideas about tor and vpns in the other threads. At least you don’t suggest using a vpn without tor. Connecting to a vpn after tor isn’t the worst thing but introducing a weak link

Most of the time they'll probably get you via a browser exploit anyway, so whonix or tails...doesn't matter. I said VPN first then Tor then another VPN. If you go straight to Tor, your ISP can easily see who connected at what time in whichever area. Anyway, this stuff should only be a concern for the more serious cyber criminals.

The point is with a VPN if they were to obtain those logs it doesn't matter if you paid with cash or that the VPN owner doesn't know who you are. They could zero in on you based on all of your activities

And Whonix is only as good as it's host, you can't use Windows

No offense, but given your replies you're probably not doing anything that warrants the hassle of using tor. Needlessly complicating things for a false sense of security while browsing innocuous stuff? What's the point.

I’m not offended but that reply is kind of lame. Tor does what it claims to do, nothing more nothing less. What security someone achieves from that depends on their own actions.

Not lame at all. It's pretty clear that you are naive about Tor.

I’m naive but you think you are helping yourself by using a VPN?
lol you think I'd use some basic bitch NordVPN? Maybe a hacked account at some level. And read the setup again. VPN -> Tor -> VPN tunnel. You can then add proxies at the end and go through remote desktops. Get as creative as you want. But this is above your head...

I already explained why it’s not a good idea it has nothing to do with the VPN itself.

If you can quit being a smartass for a second I might think you’re actually trying to contribute something enlightening

You’re not bright enough to even realize that I did contribute something enlightening. But hey, your whonix on Linux host is already complex enough for you. Think about the tunnel I described if you one day do need better anonymity.
