Anyone eat lamb?

They actually look like tofu when prepared. White cubed and spongy ... Don't really have a taste of their own to me. They pick up the flavor of the dish they are in...

lol they can pick up the flavors of the trash can ....some shit just shouldnt be eaten....

I don't eat lamb but I know many do.

A friend sent me this picture the other day. These lambs are marked for slaughter and have been separated from their mothers. They are clearly scared and you can see one of them is desperately trying to get back to its mother.

I grew up around this stuff and have no idea how many animals I've seen slaughtered. It never bothered me when I was younger. In fact, I never really gave it much thought. That's just how it was back then. But now that I've gotten older and been away from it for many years, I no longer have the stomach for it.

I don't really know what my point is, or if I even have one. But that picture bothers me. And one of the reasons it bothers me is knowing that most of the people who buy the meat from these lambs will have no knowledge of this picture. Is there anyone else from a similar background who now feels the same? Do you think people have an obligation to learn where their meat comes from, and how it was obtained?
I love lamb but you guys are right that black one just knows that he is done for and looks like he has come to terms with it. I do wonder why they have to separate them like that though. Seems a little cruel and unnecessary.

Lobster and crab legs are good, fish sucks though. Veal is good, venison is decent, beef is decent, lamb is ok, sausage is ok.

OH but I flash back to having kids and what happens.?? And all the moms sitting outside while they have the newborns culled off to get their eyedrops and all... And now you WARP time a little bit and start to think and then must wonder WHO is the hearder...! I wonder sometimes you know...

You bring a point interestingly enought that it is the YOUNG ONES which have the NUMBER hence targeted for the slaughter. So what exactly should my understanding of a LAMB be? I COW TERMS I think the slaughter of babies is what we modern day Romans call "Veal" - Right? So one might think that his MASTERS might get critical of his behavior when so many are starving and poorly cared for and some societies are eating in lavish ways. Because to kill a baby cow JUST TO HAVE DELICATE MEAT would appear to me to be LAVISH..? Right..? Did I miss something?

So what is that actually. Is "Lamb" a technical TERM for "baby something"?? Baby Sheep??? Forgive my ignorance...:)

I DO love my bird as well. So tender and juicy. Ya know you should stop by Sams Club sometime and pick up those plumped up roasters for 4.99 a pop. Best damn chickens and all the work is done. I swear they may have almost stole a Boston Market recipe or created a real good competitor. But you really can't beat that price - its less than a raw bird in some stores.. I actually heard there are some pretty sinister "plumpers" injected into this type chicken preparation to make them so big and juicy..??

I also don't know if you guys noticed, but the chickens in the store today are nothing to the ones we got in old day when chicken first went mainstream. I recall in the early 80's that the store chickens were monster sized. You don't see them like that anymore except maybe the frozen portions might be where they all go as big ones..?? And yes the end of all that and transition to our market being a truly poor one was when the price of WINGS shot thru the roof. Damn the wing joints for bringing them to our attention/ but at the same time placed a premium on what used to cost dirt.. No one wanted that part. Actually, I guess when there is a premium on NECKS will truly mark the end.. LOL

Chicken is king. I could eat breaded thin chicken everyfuckin day of my life and would never get sick of it.

You are correct baby sheep it is. I am quite sure you knew that:rolleyes:. Is it truly lavish maybe so.....slight over dramatics here BBC. I say it I love me some baby sheep BBC no problem with that. If it comes to market and I have a taste for it I will buy it. I will eat it. No qualms about it. Why Lamb(baby sheep)? Have you ever had Mutton(grown sheep)?:) I like cow over baby cow though.

DRAMA is my Middle Name... Lately anyway... LOL And no I never really thought of it seriously. Really I only knew veal was baby cow cause of a chick I once knew who was a snob for it. I was kinda like who needs a baby cow when you got tenderloin right there?? So did not occur really. But now that you mention yes it seems like society eats only baby sheep and no mutton.. But really my guess would be that its not intended as a food staple but moreso for the wool to keep us warm. Which ACTUALLY doubles the SIN...:(;):D:p Cause thats what grown cows are for.... LOL:)

I just picked up a really nice 85 Blazer couple weeks ago,
and since I got it, I been having fun on the backroads here trying to clip deer..

Those fuckers are agile as fuck!
Well, I got 2 of them this weekend, but they were only babies,
so I didn't even chalk them up on my board.. I keep a count on blackboard in kitchen..

Anyway, I came up on one this morning that I completely
forgot about, with all this Vanilla shit going on...

I came around this corner at 75mph and although
it's a tricky turn with a hill and lake at the bottom,
I knew I've seen a bunch there before, so I risked it.. I'm a good swimmer..

I fuckin come right up on this buck..
This bastard didn't even see me until I was right up on it, because a
bus was coming the other way... Girl scout camp half mile down road
and every.. what's today? .. Wednesday.. they take a trip to the local bar..
I live in a fucked up town..

Well, I really wanted this one, because girl scouts here
all carry IPhones and I would have loved to have been able to post the pic,
but the damn thing, did this double or triple.. can't remember cause
my mother was screaming in seat next to me... twist with a flip
straight up the cavern .. It was amazing..
I gotta get over to the camp to see if any of the scouts captured it on film..

They should have all sobered up by now

Im sure lambbs have some cognitive function at least enough to know theyr in a shitty situation

Lambs and sheep are always scared before slaughter. Whether they know what's coming, I don't know. I've seen a cows that absolutely knew what was going on. No question about it.

A lot of the replies so far have come from guys that grew up in the city and the closest they'll ever come to a real live lamb is on TV or in a book. If the only way to get lamb meat was to slaughter it themselves, the replies would be a little different. I can say that with some certainty because whenever I've been around someone who's never seen slaughtering/butchering before, they tend to turn a funny color the first time they see it. Hitting a 10-week-old lamb that's crying for its mother over the head with a hammer, sticking it, and then watching it bleed out isn't likely to put most in the mood for lamb chops.

Unless you hurt any dog or my daughter. Then ill cut your throat and play in your blood for hours.
Like you I don't care much for a mans life. Men in general has pretty much fucked up everything this planet has had to offer. We don't care what we have to stomp over or betray to get the satisfaction of being number 1. A dog is a different story. As long as you give the attention they will stay at your side never betray you(except for eating the remote). I'd swerve for a dog and gun the pedal for a man.

I grew up on a working ranch, and to us slaughtering our own stuff was no big deal, but to the virgin eye... For sheep & especially goats we used a ball ping hammer between the eyes before cutting the throat. We had people who would collect the blood, and boil it with spices as a delicacy. Sit was just nasty. Everything else we just shot between the eyes.
