Anyone have experience with Osteoperosis?

So my mom (age 55) just got diagnosed with osteoporosis.
T score of 3.0 in the spine. (not good)
Fuckin doctor knew she had osteopenia from her dexa 5 years ago but didn't even tell her about it.

She had an appointment with an HRT clinic that I recommended, after years of me telling her to do it but she didn't because her "doctor" told her its dangerous, the same one who ignored her osteopenia.

then she went to her doctors and they suggested 3 different medications

TYMLOS (abaloparatide) , FORTEO (teriparatide) and EVENITY (romosozumab-aqqg)

She will be doing HRT for sure, but should she take one of these big pharma drugs aswell?

Tymlos and Forteo are similar and stimulate bone growth. Usually for people with severe osteoporosis. Evenity slows down bone breakdown. My Mother-In-Law takes Forteo and she tolerates it well and it has a good safety profile.

Hey!

Wow, what a “doctor”! I’m so sorry both you and she had to go through something like that to begin with :(

BamaCrazy already mentioned a few things.
These are all incredible drugs, with Romosozumab being close to being called a miracle drug when it comes to osteoporosis.
Having said that, unfortunately each of them do have a few not-so-nice side effects that aren’t exactly very rare (in other words: Uncommon or even Common).
Considering how late I’m replying, I’m sure that you two have already gone through all of that, and have probably already chosen which one to go with as well as which drug to continue with after the initial one has done its part.

I sure hope she has a new and good (proper) doctor now, because the last thing she’s need is for one as.. (!!!!).. as the one you mentioned putting spanners in the works during her treatment :(

Wishing you both all the best!

I guess the thing here is you are too pissed off to fuss over details

Everything in sequence, observe effects and sides, followed by bloodwork to confirm.

How else are you gonna know what works or what doesn't?

You already know what's coming: balance test and estrogen, peptides, magnesium supplement, weight training, electro muscle stimulation, etc.

Draw up a plan for the hrt clinic and get them to follow.

I would also have her doctor run a Pth , Ca and Vit d test at the same time just to rule out parathyroid I was normocalcemic and it was hard to find and it caused osteopenia. My mother had it and never had surgery and she had osteoporosis.
