Arnold on bodybuilding today

i totally agree - they need to change the judging criteria completely

the shit reminds me of hip hop music. For many people who grew up listening to hip hop, it was all about the golden era.. late 80's to early 90's. Now southern hip hop has completely taken over and hip hop is in a totally different place. Being someone who grew up on the older shit i often listen to new hip hop and legitimately think they are taking the piss and am lost for words at how people can like it.. but i also enjoy people who have a good balance of the old and the new. its very similar to bodybuilding. Cedric is a perfect example.

all it will take is one guy who has that type of body but also has the star quality where people can't help but like them (like arnold) and they could change bodybuilding for the better

Probably been posted before some place. People have said this before but first time somebody with some pull seems to speak out about it that can't be crucified by the ifbb. I totally agree.

Arnold can make a serious impact on the future of bodybuilding. He is influential enough to make change and people really listen to him. He makes a good point about Jim Manion and it starts with him and trickles down to the judges. The whole community and fans will have to ban together to bring this sport in a new direction, for the better. Great video.

I agree with Arnold about how the standards are just awful today, but let's face it. The sport makes more money when the top guys look like freaks.

Hadn't there been "talks" of having an alternative Olympia where the physique standards would be more similar to those from the 80's or 70's? A greater emphasis placed on symmetry and proportion first, and then mass all tied together with a small waist. There could still be the regular Olympia but there would also be the Classic Olympia also. I guess nothing will ever come of it though.

Arnold should use his influence to bring back the time and battle-tested old school rules and make bb'ing a sport where the *best* physique stands out...not be the moneygrubbing freakshow it is now. The Mr. O these days just makes me cringe.

The 70s and 80s arguably were the best days of the sport and time to bring the sport back to earth...are you listening IFBB?

It saddens me there are select. Groups that keep in power. Being in the know now. These judge's get kick backs and vote on the same people over and over again.
Im so glad Arnold spoke up. Its time for change. The mass monsters are not good for the industrie. People dont look at the mags and say ooh I want to look like him. And the ladies definitely dont find it attractive. Now put one of the old bb that have great aesthetic and symmetry. And that's a physics that anyone would want.

Another thing would be the opinions of bb'ers now? Would they have preferred the old rules? I am sure they would applaud Arnold's speech on this.

These guys are similar to the the old school bb's but still lack some mass, especially in the lower body. Proportion and symmetry are great though.

Just curious, but how much do these physique guys usually weigh on stage?

Jeremy Buendia (pictured above) competes at 175 lbs and currently holds the Mr. Olympia Physique title. My guess would be anywhere from 175-200 lbs.

Yep and he is about 195-200lbs at 5'8 in off season. A lot of guys here on meso easily out mass him of course.

Here he is off season as you can see nothing crazy special, but it's his insane conditioning, definition and symmetry when cut down that has wins him the title in that category.

amazing video of 1988 about couple years before I started training and four years before I competed I'm 205 5-6 like labrada makes me feel like I have the build to of won back when it was like this. labrada was 175 but looked phenomenominal.

I had good ripped condition, but my waist was not made to be that small
.my waist is similar to gaspari.sometimes you just got to pose in ways that keeps you from looking thick waisted. I've thought about doing both physique and bodybuilding. I hope a come back emerges of aesthetic bodybuilders if so I got a better chance. Bob Paris was another good example and the old Guy is Albert beckles I remember a competition he was 62. at 1992 Olympia the year Dorian took over
