BA and BB shelf life

How long is BA and BB good for? I ordered some vials about five years ago and was shipped to 50 ml bottles of each. Since they are sealed with a rubber top, I'm guessing they are okay from a sterility standpoint, but could they break down?

I got this from a soap making site...they have an msds listed for benzyl alcohol

Shelf life when stored within advised conditions, re-test after 12 months, then at 3 monthly intervals up to a maximum life of 36 months.

So it looks like it does have a shelf life of 3 yrs at the longest.
The went on to say a cool dark place with a maximum temp not to exceed 104F

Hmm makes me wonder about the shelf life of brewed gear. I know everyone says it can last like 5+yrs, but if the ba loses potency in 3yrs, any bacteria introduced after that point would yield growth of bacteria... right?

Correct, the BA may begin to degrade at the point. It wouldn't be a bad idea for when that point approaches to shoot 1% or so of filtered BA into vials of that age.

But then again, I have heard of people using 5-10 year old vials of testosterone with no issue at all. I would say that as long as you keep the gear in a cool room (60-72 degrees) and not constantly in sight of sunshine or in hot conditions, than degradation will be quite minimal. You can never be too safe though - remember that.

I cant imagine gear sitting in my house for 5 years ;)

WAIT you seem to be referring to separate issues.
1) Shelf life ------- Is referring to the ability of a drug to maintain it's potency over time bc of exposure to the elements, water in particular, which causes oxidation/reduction reactions. When either of these occur the chemical structure is altered which may, depending upon several factors alter a drugs potency

2) Bacterial contamination
By definition ALL Ph grade parenteral drugs ARE STERILE and as such should remain sterile providing the container remains intact. BA does not change this fact.
UGL AAS are obviously another story bc most ARE NOT STERILE but have bacterial counts that are relatively low such that an infection does not occur.

Remember BA does NOT KILL BACTERIA it ONLY prevents their multiplication. So if the BA has lost it's potency in an UGL product, nothing is preventing the bacteria from reproducing .......and the chances of an infection would likely increase.

When my grandparents passed , we had to clean out their house . They had a bottle of rubbing alcohol (from the 1960"s) that had got lost behind a cabinet . It was still good (and full) !

it is like wine or whisky the older the better

No , Isopropyl Alcohol is more like Vodka or Everclear , it remains neutral unless its exposed to air , then evaporates quickly ...

The bottle of rubbing alcohol was over 40 years old and still full , it had never been opened .

A guy my neighbor was with in the slammer drank isopropol alcohol all the time in ... The slammer...
it never had time be exposed to the air for very long .. o_O

actually I have been to two deaths from Isopropyl alcohol. Both involved teenagers sadly.
The estimate lethal dose for the "average" human is 250ml of 99% iso

Biggest thing that degrades BA it seems is both exposure to air and also exposure to light
