I used to do 315 as well until I figured out I hit my lats much better when I did somewhere in the 225 to 275 range. You may well be able to 315 and hit your lats effectively for me it proved more beneficial keeping my ego in check and going a bit lighter.
I agree, I try to use as little body momentum as possible to assist. On the Yates I think it is easier to cheat then on the Pendlay. I may cheat a rep or two at the end of a set when I can no longer complete one with perfect form but that's it. Making sure your contracting your back muscles is more important than throwing on a bunch of plates and performing half assed reps.
