That's the only thing I've seen is cream form,,but I guess there may be other forms,,don't know. Just go to where acne meds are sold and you'll find bp fairly easily in cream form.
Those spot creams are only good for white heads. You need Bactrim or Dicloxacillin. If you doc won't give it to you leave and don't pay him.

Just get the oxy benzyl peroxide, make sure its the 10% (strongest OTC you can get). Its a cream from clearacil, oxy, whatever
The 2% salycilic acid is good also, I use a body wash with it and it seems to work pretty well. (phisoderm I think?)
You can get a day / night one made by Oxy at walmart or walgreens that has the 2% salycilic acid on one side for the day and then the 10% benzyl for night.
I personally had a really bad experience with the Bactrim. It ended up eatting away the lining the my stomach and made me pretty sick. I had to go on Prilosec and stay away from orals, drinking and anything acidic for a while. (It sucked.) Doc said that was pretty common, but who knows what that really means.
For acne you should/can treat it 2 ways..
Topically (with a cream like the benzol)
and internally with an antibiotic (like bactrim or tetracycline / doxi .... I prefer the latter)
