best home workout machine

www.nellies.com

A power cage
A 300# set
A incline/flat/decline bench
The high/low pulley stack.

Call it done.

I had this set up plus some dumbbells and an oly curl bar. I wish I still had it.....I would probably only go to the gym on leg day.

my dad is looking for one.. which would be the best way to go? Crossbow, bowflex? right now hes looking into something called the Vectra 1600

www.vectrafitness.com/products_1600.html

what would yall buy if you were about 50 and hadnt lifted in a few years and wanted a versitile home gym?

thanks

I agree with hogg. Just b/c he hasnt lifted in years doesnt mean he needs a machine. I about have my dad started again. He lifted into his 40's but elbow pain made him quit everytime he got to heavy weights. This has been about 6 or 7 years for him. He is going to just get an adjustable bench and olympic db handles. Have him do that awhile and if he is really keeping at it progress to a power rack and barbell for additional lifts

What Hogg and thick said. You can't go wrong with a power rack, 300# olympic set (to start with), and an adjustable bench (or even just a flat bench).

the power rack takes up alot of space... they are going to put in in their spare room, and my mom wants room in there to do pilates too

Yep, a power rack with the bar will take up around 4' x 10'. Gotta have a little room to load the bar on each side.

Is there going to be someone there to spot him everyday? If not, the I wouldnt give heavy free-weights to my 50 yr old dad. I would go with a bowflex or something. If he does, and you are severely limited by room, just get an adjustable bench and a set of dumbells.
