best source of carbs?

what is the best source of carbs after your workout? what foods would benefit your workout the most? and approximately how many carbs should you be consuming directly after working out?

I always worry more about what carbs to consume PRE workout.
Something quick digesting like a Gatorade or a BCAA shake that has carbs in it.
Post workout your whey shake will already have some carbs in it but I think you would be fine with a good hardy Carb 30-60 minutes post workout, oatmeal or Ezekiel bread. IMO.

If there is another approach I love new ideas.

Oatmeal does a hell of a job keeping me energized and stable for a workout. That or try some Lentils unless you feel that'll sit to heavy in your stomach. If you're more of a sugar burst energy drink type of guy, go with some fruit, more preferrably a banana or something higher carb.
 
I love the tost whole wheat bread. It tastes very very good and each slice has about 10grams of complex carbs. It's very cheap as well.

try to aim for 40g of carbs post workout, raisins are great for creating an insulin spike post workout
 
you want high glycemic carbs post workout...something like chocolate milk will give you the sugar and the protein you need. You want to shoot for a 2:1 ratio if your trying to drop BF%, or 4:1 ratio if you are an endurance athlete.
 
Vitargo is probably the best high molecular weight carb but it is expensive, so i go with waxy maize. Cheap, tastes good, gets the job done. Unfedpuppy is right though pre-workout carbs are more important. Search "Top 10 Post Workout Myths" on Meso and it will bring up a badass thread by hacksii with details. That thread and the studies referenced therein revamped my entire approach to anabolic nutrition.
