Blood Doping

Hello, has anyone heard this term? There was some guy who was a good size fella at my gym talking with some guy about blood doping, he tried to explain it to me that it's where you withdrawl blood and your body will produce more to make up for it, and then you inject all that blood into yourself once your body makes more of it.What is this used for, I'm not going to try it, I've just never heard of this before.Thanks.

It is currently an outdated method. We have drugs that do a better and safer job. From what I am familiar with- it was mostly used to increase endurance and done during workout taper periods where you are attempting to recoup. prior to a big event.

Blood doping is used to increase the red blood cell count, and thus, increase the ability of your blood to carry more oxygen, increasing athletic endurance. Nothing to do with body building. These days athletes use EPO instead for the same effect.

i have read you withdraw up to a pint of blood but it is then frozen onze froozen it most then be alowed to thaw slowly and this is what actuly increase the red blood cells. once its is thawed you put it back in. mjm this is something that used to be done to world class athletes by a team of doctors it would really serve you no purpose and you are not capable of doing this yourself this sound very dangerous and you will proly end up giving yourself a very bad bacterial infection in your bloodstream wich could kill you. this is not something you do on your own

Thanks guys, and Quedog. No I was never going to try it, and it would not serve any purpose I was just never familiar with the term and wondered what it was for.Do you know what type of athletes, runners, or bodybuilders,or all around athletes? Thanks.

its def for runners like marathon and long distance runners also cycalist that need to have alot of stamina used it a long time ago i believe it really doesnt serve much of a purpose for a bodybuilder or a regular athlete maybe a little but nothing compared to someone like lance armstrong.
