Building traps

+ I really like wide grip high pulls instead of upright rows. I think they're easier on your shoulder joint

The bar shrugs can be a little sloppy so you can use more weight because you can't really cheat on seated dumbbell shrugs so your form gets more strict as you progress through the movements. It's all about making sure the traps are doing the work also. Make sure you're feeling it especially as you get to the cables. Make those fuckers burn. :mad:

the seated dumbell shrugs, I do kelso shrugs, the bench's support lets you go heavier.
 
I train traps EOD on average.

I do shrugs everytime. Power shrugs once a week. When doing shrugs, I move on the slow side and hold at the top.

Most everyone I see loads up the bar with too much weight and jerks the bar up and down. You get more out of it going slower and controlling the weight.

I'll do any of them except fill sandbags with an etool. Told myself after shithole Iraq I would be doing that anymore lol.

Its the nostalgia that comes with re using the e-tool... memories of golf swinging it, trying to cut CSM's grass, and doing other forms of area beautification.

Lmao good thing I never got sent to the csm for extra duty. Only had to use a screwdriver to get the grass out of the cobblestone road for 1sg while I was in Germany.

I do traps 2x a week but I'll definitely up the frequency. I use lighter weight and squeeze the hell out of my traps when I get to the top and pause.

We are talking about building TRAPS and you said Military Press? Military press IS NOT for traps. It is a pushing exercise and is for shoulders. Most everyone dose do military press standing or seated and now you replied ^^^^ wrong.

Trap exercises are as follows upright rows, , dumbbell shrugs and barbell shrugs. So maybe you should look these exercises up in a book or internet.

You are correct, and I am not trying to step on your toes here, but traps are a massive muscle. Overhead work hits the mid and lower traps. Front raises from shoulder height and above works your middle/lower traps. I can see how a standing OHP could hit traps.
I'm not sure about military press.

I think I've already stated I appreciate the wealth of knowledge and experience you've recently brought to Meso OMM....so I will lead with that.

Why you gotta put cajun on blast?
Everyone here is at different points in their training and development, he didn't come at you or anyone else aggressive, so why the need to talk to my boy like a red headed step child?
Your trap exercises are the end-all-be-all? I gave some examples that will build your trapezius far better than shrugs and they dont even involve a DB or BB, you're just a fuckin dickhead....so maybe you should look that up in a book or your "internet".
 
I will submit that yes you are correct in that the press will HELP work the lower underlying of the TRAPS (sorry don't know the names) However in reality when we work shoulders a main exercise is the overhead or military press so that , if it helps , well ok.

However it is n t a specific exercise at all for traps. I have never come across a guy with good traps do the pressing exercise for that purpose and for the purpose of this thread (building Traps) this is why I said what I said.

Ya know most everything we do , almost, by lifting free weights works a multitude of muscle groups per the area. Much like the difference of benching on a machine as opposed to a free barbell, a machine doesn't work much of the stabilizers and constricts the building of the main Pectoral. The free bar will build a more complete and in the end a better bigger chest.

No arguing, we both made good points. BUT I'll stick to the different for the different exercise.

My bad bro your right I've just always felt like doing it behind the neck made my traps bigger but that's what I'm hear for to learn things
