Butyl Rubber Stopper Question...

It's what I do. I think you could also autoclave them if you wanted. I don't think those temps would melt them but not positive.
thank you, sir. guessing theres no trace of alcohol left to contaminate the brew, huh?

If you dry them out in the oven the alcohol will evaporate.

Edit* I leave them in there for a good 20-30min or more just to make sure they're completely dry.

anybody know at what temps these can handle before they melt? thanks...

When I use to us a 45 and I thought heat was necessary to sterile, I used as high as 325. Have an experiment and bake one. Let us know when it burns up.

Yeah, gonna do that. Will have to wait till next week cuz i just burned my one day off.

The complete crystalline structure of butyl rubber will melt at 120c/248f. I probably wouldn't push over 200f because the degradation of the other vulcanizing compounds might start to deteriorate before reaching a melting point.

They are sturdy. I bake my vials at 300ish along with the stoppers. I place the stopper in the vial. Inject sterile gear into it with the stopper in, and when I have 10ml, I cap it. It is a good as the pharmacy.

yopu can autoclave them 100% if you have one available. If not i would wash with soap and water first and then isopropyl or methyl hydrate wash them after. Bake for 20-30min and then cover or keep in a sterile pack of some sorts. Im anal with this thus why do so many steps when I used to home-brew. Im too lazy to do that now. So much easier to just order lol
