Can you damage a filter membrane with thumbs?

Let's say you're putting the pressure on a wattman .22. Can you or have you ever blown through the filter membrane, or is exploding the only failure noticed? I thought I blew one out once when it went from a drip to a stream, but when releasing the pressure and hitting it again at the same pressure I started with, it was still dripping so I don't believe it was blown out.

Yup. It happens when you are almost finished. Then you start over.

It helps if you pull back on the plunger and pull all the crap that was filtered out. Unscrew the needle and eject it. It will be easier to filter if you clean it out.
