Canadians talk domestic

Just had a surprise with my GP asking about blood work results I had gotten over the last few years via prescription from TeleTest separately to assess PED use. My previous GP had never asked about these separate test and I was under the impression that results wouldn't be shared unless I explicitly asked for test results to be sent to my doctor for reasons of patient confidentiality. Does anyone know how this works?

Depending on province docs can see all of your blood work and I know this for sure in Alberta as it connects through connect care, everything is there and if your doc actually cares he or she will do a quick little look to see if there is anything glaring. My doc can see my TRT clinic blood work even though they didn't send it.

Thanks. I'm in Ontario, and saw that there is a system for sharing data across health care providers. I think what happened is when my new GP took over the practice from the previous, they actually did go through patient data or requested that everything be handed over, which is how they got access.

Which now brings up the question of being open with primary care or finding a way to bury it. Anyone have any experiences on this?

My understanding was that they couldn’t see the tests via teletest. Or other private blood work sites.

When I first went to my current family dr I actually brought her blood work results that I had because I went to Blood Tests Canada and actually gave them to her. I was natty then and I had done the private lab work because I didn’t have a dr.

She went onto whatever portal in Ontario and she could not find the results.

So this is big news to me. Teletest even advertises your family dr can’t find out.
