Cheap and easy sources of protein

Looking to up my protein intake but not sure I can do it on steak and chicken alone. I do drink one shake in the AM pre workout, but all my other intake is chicken and steak. Thinking of maybe adding some canned tuna or maybe more shakes throughout the day??? What do you guys suggest?

Whole food is king. Prioritize it over shakes. Canned tuna is good in a pinch but is kind of a shit food source. Shakes work fine and if bought on sale can be nearly as cheap as chicken and cheaper than steak per G protein. Do what you have to in order to get your cals in, but whole food rules.

Yea I had rather eat food than drink a bunch of shakes. Just that eating the same ol shit day after day kinda makes it hard to want to eat sometimes. But I may end up throwing another shake in the mix and upping my actual food amount. I like tuna but I’m guessing I should actually be buying the steaks and not the canned version?

And Costco is your best friend when it comes to whole food. 60 eggs for like $10-12, 6 cans of chicken for $10 with 8oz/can. Chicken breasts (12) for $20-ish, 6-7lbs beef for $25-ish. ON gold standard protein 6lb for $40 when on sale. Definitely worth the price of a membership.

Curious as to why you think tuna is a shit food source. Its almost pure protein. Mercury?

Serious question. How many eggs do you each a day? Does the cholesterol not worry you?

Mostly just because I’m a steak elitist lol. But I think there are better sources for everything Tuna is said to offer.
Haha yeah steak is king for me too, but a can of tuna, salmon, sardines, etc for a snack during the day seems reasonable to me.

as long as your diet is mixed, a few cans of tuna isn’t bad. I keep the packets for emergency use when I’m fucked on the road or job without food.

Studies have shown that cholesterol in foods does not translate cholesterol in lipids. Cholesterol from food is healthy in moderation. 3 eggs a day along with your egg whites.
Greek Yogurt and Cottage Cheese are good additions for protein needs as well.

Thanks man. I’ll add them back to breakfast.

Chicken thighs, ground beef, tilapia, eggs, skim milk. Kroger always has fat free Greek yogurt really cheap it has 15grams per container, I’ll eat 4 sometimes as a snack.
Peanut butter and bread makes a complete protein source as well

Something i picked up from another thread:
liquid egg whites. 25 grams protein per cup. i add a pack or two of instant oatmeal for flavor and it goes down so easy. yea its basically a shake though.

i wish i had a costco near me.

I drink 32 oz a day, have for very long time. I just chug it down.

When I'm in a crunch for breakfast, I'll mix a cup of egg whites, a cup of quick oats 1/4 cup of milk with some protein powder. That will keep you full until your next meal.

When blasting and gaining I eat anywhere from 5-12/day hard boiled. Sometimes more, but the gas is horrendous! My cholesterol is always on the low to middle end, and that’s due to genetics, but the whole “cholesterol in eggs is bad” I believe to be complete BS.

Costco has that rotisserie chicken pulled in bags for cheap as well.
