Liver is a great idea. It's the most nutritious thing you can eat.To the OP.... if you're on a really tight food budget (i know that feeling myself atm) and you want high protein/low fat....have you ever tried Ox Liver?
It packs a serious nutritional punch and Asda do 500g packs for about £1.50 so you could get 2-3 meals out of that easily. Other livers are available (lamb, pig, chicken etc) but they tend to be a bit more expensive and not good value for the pack weight. If you've got a strong stomach you could try other offal too but heart and kidneys are strong flavours and not very nice.
With Ox liver....just fry off some onions in a hot pan and then add the liver thinly sliced and fry for another 2-3 minutes until cooked and then pour in a splash of bisto gravy (or any sauce you like) to keep it moist. Serve that with rice or mash and some veg and you've got a cheap/nutritious meal.
Chicken livers are my favourite and I've not had them for ages but I know what I'm having for tea tonight now![]()

Fairly inexpensive and loaded full of nutrition and were staple foods for every bodybuilder in the 80s/90s even when cash wasn't tight lol.
