College Nutrition

To start, I'm 6'3, 180 pounds and been working out for about 3 years. I'm getting out of the Military soon, going to college and looking to play sports. But first I need to get over this hump I've reached and gain some weight. I'm looking to get to about 210 or 220 pounds and do so as fast as possible!

I know I don't eat properly and could easily gain the weight if I had the right structure. My problem is though that I will be eating at the campus cafeteria and basically not eating the best food. Is there any suggestions on what kinds of food I should be choosing to eat and if possible, does anyone have a diet regime that I should follow, for someone of my build.

Thanks,
Tecmo

Damn bro you sound like a beanpole. Hopefully football isnt a part of those sports dreams you've been having. Anyhow, you probubly need to talk about what sports you intend on playing. Then I could give you advice. You sound like you'd have a good build for volleyball, track, golf, tennis, soccer maybe? Honestly I cant see football, hockey, wrestling, or even basketball as real options. But post thoughts bro.

Thanks for nothing! Your post was not only a complete waist of my time, but unhelpful as well!

As for me playing sports, I play Football currently and do damn good! I'm a Wide Receiver and in case you didn't know, I'm going to educate you. The Wide Receiver position is filled by people at my height and averaging only about 10 to 15 pounds more then myself. That would be the reason that I'm on here posting to find ways to gain weight anyways! I'm looking to gain about 10 to 15 pounds and fit more evenly with my peers.

As for you, your ignorance is clearly been displayed here by the fact that you have no idea what your talking about! So before you post comments about other people and them playing sports that your boyfriend plays, I think you need to check your info!

Have you seen how thin players in the NBA are? Kevin Garnett is 6'11" and only weighs 220lbs. Now that is a beanpole. Basketball is dominated by tall thin guys- I know from experience that increased muscularity in basketball offers diminishing returns and can actually become detrimental at a point.

Tecmo- you probably get two meals/day right? All you can eat? Cafeterias almost always have some kind of potato or pasta and there will always be a meat source (Or commonly cottage cheese or eggs). Look around the buffet and just search out starches and protein sources. Your lucky that you are trying to gain weight, because most things will be fried and/or breaded. You will also have a ridiculous salt intake. Just drink lots of water. So what you need to do to get the most out of the alotted two meals is to take your backpack into the cafeteria with you and get some of those cheap disposable zip-lock storage containers (They are like rubbermaid but cheaper). Eat a ton of food for your meal and then go back for one more plateful and then just put this plate of food into your zip-lock containers then take them back to the fridge in your dorm room or wherever. If you eat twice in the cafeteria and get two additional meals from the zip-locks each time that will give you four meals/day. Then you could get an MRP or some kind of protein powder to eat right when you wake up or before you go to bed. It's hard to estimate the cals in the cafeteria food, but if you get full on that stuff four times/day and supplement that with two other small meals you should be able to gain weight. In the cafeteria choose pastas and potatos over breads because the breads are less nutrient dense. Avoid all the crap food that's in there which is about 90% of what's available. If you have to go through two-a-days, then you'll need to eat even more during that time (which is actually hard, because you will be so hot and tired)

bodybuilding.com has some good articles on college nutrition. It is definitely hard (esp. living on campus), but it will be fine as long as you plan ahead.

For you, I would suggest simple, high calorie stuff like natural peanut butter, maybe a high calorie shake or two a day, nuts, etc. Go to bb.com though and read some of the stuff on there...get your RMR and all that and see what you come up with, then come back here with more specific questions like "is 15% fat per day enough if I am wanting to gain weight?"

Thanks

I appreciate the suggestion Bros!!! And if anyone else has anymore suggestions it would be appreciated!
