Construction thread... Show off your work!

Here's a project we're doing ATM. The place was full of mold, had rotted out floor joists, knob and tube wiring, basically every waterline had a crack, etc. Lol. After some minor TLC, it's almost ready to rent out.

Lol
sounds like fucking hell
I dont miss doing those reno's
Sistering and laminating joists to properly sit on the rim.. I have enough grey hair from that shit back in the day.

No. After it's caulked and painted, a simple °45 looks pretty seamless to me if done good. Maybe if I was doing high end properties in A class neighborhoods and working by the hour for someone else I would. Lol.
Have you used a battery powered caulk gun? I just got one but haven't had a chance to use it. Maybe this weekend after I cope and glue some base

No. That does seem like it would be nice if it worked right. Getting a nice even bead is a bit of a skill with a manual caulk gun.

A few of my buddies do auto glass and they use the Milwaukee version to run glue. I got the dewalt and it has 6 speed settings. I imagine it's a time saver.

I got the dewalt one. Mines for fire caulking. Bigger beads, works good, you got to get used to the timing.
Fire caulking? I've used it a few times now. I hate it for caulking trim or any finish work. It's absolute dog shit for that. There is a delay when pulling the trigger so there's no feel to it. I also can't believe they had the balls to call it drip less. that thing is a fucking dripping mess unless you pull the top trigger after every run. So anyway, for finish work I give it a big thumbs down, fucking garbage.

I do like it for running adhesive though. Long runs with no breaks. You can stop in one spot and leave a big glob of mastic or glue, which is nice for doing mirrors.

Overall it has a purpose, just not the purpose I wanted it to have.

We do a lot of bottom of wall fire caulking in commercial buildings between the floor and drywall

BUMP
Quickie tile job.
Owner didnt want to pay to redo the walls (Lathe and plaster) so that I could make the walls perfectly square and plumb
So the tiles go for a run on the corners, but I'll fix it mostly with Painters tape grout lines
Did a built in marble shelf with a hexagon tile sheet in the back of the shelf

Not my best work, would have preferred re framing and drywalling the shower enclosure to ensure perfection

400 individual cuts on SHITTY ass fucking individual tiles
Wasnt fun but looks okay.

Looks good bro. I gotta do a shower at the house soon. Any pointers? Can I put hardy backer straight to studs with a flashing at the bottom at the tub?

For sure.
I'd just either cement or epoxy your joints with some fiber tape.
As for the flashing,
I like to shim out, my so that my tile comes down to the tub and sits over top of the return/lip at the top of the tub, so no need for a flashing/joint near the bottom.
Standard silicone joint at the meeting point.

Usually with 1/2 board, you'll be good to.have the tiles come down over the lip/return.
Smack a few coats of good sealer on there and there wont be a single water penetration issue.

Forgot to post the finished shower enclosure... that was a while ago and @Brandaddy posting reminded me.

Also
A ceiling I boarded and taped. the angle was a bit of a bitch, but all good, got her painted now, she looks pretty nice.
Custom home I'm.building... I think it's an 18 foot ceiling... get some custom lighting going on her, shes going to pop nicely.
Took more time than I'm proud to admit to laser in the inside 45° and get them to sit nicely in the mud

I'm decent at everything, but amazing at nothing lol

you can have all that sanding, especially overhead. Alot of work. Looking good!

Lol
That sounds spooky similar to my kitchen experience.
I just fucking suck at it.... I guess I should stick to rough carpentry.

Somehow I've always cut the sink crooked and had to put a little extra caulk on some spots. Lol. The first ones I did I kind of rushed too and if you look at them some were a good 1/8" off from being flush with each other. Just little rookie mistakes trying to rush the work.
