Controlled domestic delivery?

I was washing my vehicle in the driveway and waiting for my express delivery like I have in the past. It's always the same thing postal person makes it there just before noon . This time a new Taurus pulls up and sits in front of my driveway for about three to five minutes. The gentleman gets out of the car wearing a button down shirt and khakis ,and asks is I am ,so and so. Which struck me as odd because everyone butchers my last name . He says I have a package for you. He does not have the computer devise they carry, he has nothing on him, and never mention the postal service. My instinct told me to say I did not order anything . I could tell he did not like this and then asked me if I know "This guy" , the sender
I said no. I then said what should I do take it back to the post office? He said well you can refuse it. I said yeah I refuse it.
My source which has been great said to go pick it up , you have nothing to worry about, and it's impossible . The pack was sent back . I really do not think I was wrong in not taking it. Like I said this is not my first time. What do you guys think?

if it got to the point of LE delivering the package, I have a hard time believing that a simple "I refuse it" would end it. I could see the cop walking back into headquarters, throwing his hands in the air, "he refused it boys, the case it over".

granted, I have zero experience with controlled deliveries, but that does not make much sense.

can you tell us what was being delivered?

Bi since I'm a freak and I've been non stop researching it until you open that pack you don't know the contents inside and therefore it does not stand up in court they even put a device in the pack to see if it's been opened and then they can come in so I don't know I could be a paranoid freak but my Spidey senses were going off and like I said this isn't my first rodeo so I wasn't even nervous before but something felt off

Seems to me if you refused they'd just open it right there and arrest you and say you're the one that opened it. Then testify in court you opened it and it's your word against theirs. If they want you they don't let things like the law get in the way of making an arrest. That's always been my experience anyway.

I'm a paranoid freak as well and I'm not saying you're wrong. If you truly think that's what's happening you need take a long, hard look at what you've been doing and consider cutting it out because they won't just give up because you refused a package.

I had an international package like that that my wofe refused because it wasn't our normal delivery person. was just some ancillaries but she just did what is always told her and refused it because it wasn't our normal mail lady. This person left a ticket and said it could be picked up if we changed our mind. Several people told me if it's an express delivery that you sometimes get a special delivery person. I ended up picking it up and it was fine. Your situation sounds a little different and I would be nervous too. My wife also said that lady that delivered my package was being weird and seemed put off at the refusal. Sorry, I know this isn't much help but my situation was similar. The guys I talked to on here ended up making me feel comfortable about picking it up. I say if you don't feel comfortable just let it go. It's not worth the risk. I'd say it depends on what was in the pack too. I listed all of my products on here so guys could see. The only thing I had that made easy a little nervous was ephedrine because I know guys can use it to make meth.

If it was a controlled delivery they will probably try to deliver it again. Read a story about a guy who declined a controlled delivery and they came back and got his girlfriend to sign while he was gone. Theyou then searched his apartment and arrested him. He had ordered raws though.

I probably would have refused it too. A Taurus pulling up to deliver a package like that... I'd be half sketched out even if I knew it wasn't gear or something. If it was a domestic order I can't imagine why it would be brought right to you either... Mine are always put in mail box and I go get get it.

On the other hand, I can't imagine why a cop would show up like that. My impression of controlled delivery is they have the regular postal carrier deliver it like normal and pop you after the delivery.

I agree. Any smart cops setting up a bust wouldn't do anything to spook the guy they're trying to arrest. If anything they would've had the normal mailman give it to you and have you sign for it. Then they would've waited for you to go inside so they can arrest you in there and search around your house.

There were to many things off about this situation. The person delivering your mail wasn't in proper uniform nor was he driving the proper vehicle. Also, rather than simply placing the package in your mail box he wanted to hand it to you. Additionally, he inquired about the sender and whether you knew him.

Few people realize that the postal department has their own investigators, which work with law enforcement. Perhaps, the person delivering your package was a US postal service investigator. It sounds like you did the right thing. And if not, then you missed our on one single package.

Serious? Anyone could have sent that pack to him is what my attorney would say. If I had a delivery like that I would have refused to accept it. Doesn't sound like usps or any other delivery service I ever heard of.

USPS often uses employees other than the regular carrier to deliver express mail. It's actually the only mail that can be delivered by other employees besides carriers. Usually this is done if the carrier doesn't think he'll make it in time. They may or may not have a uniform or an official vehicle. Vehicles are in short supply, and if the employee is willing, they can use their personal vehicle and be compensated for it.

As far as the scanner they may not have needed one. Many express no longer need a signature (although International ones usually always do) and it can be scanned in the vehicle without you seeing it and also left without you signing for it.

I will point out that all USPS employees should have picture ID usually clipped to their shirt.

I have no idea what happened inh this case and don't blame you for being safe. I would be too. Just wanted to provide some info on express mail through USPS

I think that saying "no" to something with your name on it would arouse suspicion. I mean, everybody loves a package in the mail. It's like Christmas! What happens to the package at this point? To they try to redeliver tomorrow? Certainly the shipper wouldn't put the real return address on it.

Just thought this was an interesting read.

It does, but you have to take everything into account. If I have a guy sitting in front of my house for 5 minutes with no ID and a package of steroids I'm not taking it.

I hear ya. It's a tough situation to be in. I had a little business where, at the beginning, I would always get paranoid anytime I would drop off a box at FedEx. After the first several times, that paranoia went away. Well, until the FBI came to my house years later...

If you feel something isn't right let it go. You are out a few hundred bucks. Last time I hired an attorney that is what he charged by the hour.
