Daughter needs fast help

Lats don't help with driving the bar up during a bench press. They create a much more sturdy shoulder joint and upper back which then helps with a bigger bench press.
I agree. I did not explain to good. I was trying to show how lats help with pushups. Thanks for clearing it up. I think with all the replays we answered the question how lats will help with pushups and bench.

Yea I was getting a bit confused there lol

When I was very young my dad trained the hell out of me. He told me the day I could drop and do 100 correct form push-ups in a row he would pay me $100 cash. I never got there tbo. But like someone mentioned earlier she needs to just be blowing them out. At all different times of the day I.E watching tv etc etc. also show her the switch up method between a arms in tight (elbows pointed towards feet) more focused on triceps to bending elbows working more chest. Both methods are correct but I learned in the army when testing if you switch off at like every 6-7 reps the result will be more push-ups landed before she reaches failure. Good luck. She will get there. She has your support. That is big. Keep her confidence level up and steady working. I also know that for some reason if you do a pre test you will usually be able to get about 5 more on the real test. Guess it's a mind thing.

Ive done just push-ups and been sore in the lats for days so its an indirect effect on the lats ...

This is another reason to do fullbody workouts , it eliminates any crossover effect .
Ive went back to 2 fullbody workouts a week ; every 3.5 days which should give the best combination of muscle breakdown and muscle rest/recuperation ....

I would do tons of pushups throughout the day and a full body workout 3 times a week. Stick to the big 5.

What are "the big 5"? I've got her doing semi daily workouts on the weider total gym copy as well as opposing days on the cable machine focusing more on upper body strength.

Bench press, military press, bent rows, squats, and deadlifts. Some variation of those five with moderate to heavy weights should help shed some weight and gain some strength. Don't forget to focus on the pushups too throughout the week.

Thanks for the input! I don't have any free weights so I need to make plans to apply these with what I have to work with. Remember, I'm no BBer, just a recent TRT dude lucking out on some good cheap/free equipment and some fresh desire.

I think doing push ups are great and all but I'd put more focus on weight training and building strength.

When I was in the army we'd never go to the gym for pt and it'd just be hundreds of push ups. I wasn't getting stronger and I lingered around 60-65 every pt test. I'd try to go to the gym but being infantry it was kinda hard being in the feild a lot. So now Iv been out and have had 6 months of consistent weight training and out of curiousity I did a push up test and pumped out 85 in the standard 2 min. I haven't done push ups in 6 months but bc my strength was way better I completely blew threw my old record. Just my two cents on the matter. Good luck

With my daughter and wife I have them do as a perfect as a push-up as the can even if it is just1. When they have maxed I have them do girl push-ups. Once they can get over 15 reps I put a 10 pound plate on there back.
