Diet for optimal health

Bodybuilding diets aren't really the greatest for health. I been trying to find a way that you can optimize muscle growth without sacrificing health. @Dr.Jim , @Docd187123 , I been reading about how Constantly activated MTor can lead to disease. If that's correct then eating protein all day would be negative for health. With that in mind I'm considering intermittent fasting due to keeping MTor only activated at certain times around training. I would like to know your thoughts on that , as well as how concreate is the science on fasting and longevity. I think that we all should be concerned with being healthy and not just looking good or being strong. I know the young guys don't really care , but there are a lot of here that are past the "I'm invincible " phase and want to optimize health and longevity as well as looking awesome.

Speaking of healthy. I just had watercress for the first time and it's almost spicy or really strong.

About the topic though, I do fast in the morning for as long as possible during my cuts. Unfortunately I can't last that long.

I been fasting until noon. Im hungry up until 9 then I have no appetite at all when it's time to eat.

I'm up at 4:30 so waiting till 12 would most likely kill me. When you fast you can eat or drink anything right? Like empty empty?

That's exactly what time I get up. Lol. You can drink water. I drink coffee. Black coffee and water won't take you out of your fasted state.

Well as long as I have coffee I'm good. Keeps the hunger away but makes me pee a lot.

Well I'm a strict vegan. Still growing lean muscle mass but zero health issues at the ripe old age of 47. Last cholesterol reading was 132. All lipids in order etc. Garbage in garbage out.

Fastin has been shown to have some benefits but some of those benefits aren't seen until the fast is > 24hrs. From my understanding, mTor has only been correlated to disease and not proven to be a causative agent.

So intermittent fasting wouldn't have the same health benefits as fasting for 24 hours?

Not quite. Intermittent fasting will have some some (not the same) of the benefits of fasts of 24hrs or more. At the same time, fasting does have drawbacks so whichever method you choose, there are both Pros and cons

im only doing intermittent fasting for the health benefits. Do you think fasting for 24hrs once a week or once a month is a better option for my goals? I think it's a decent tool while dieting. I'm consuming less calories because I can't eat that much in 8 hours. I don't think it's great for performance unless I eat a couple meals before training.

What would be the pros and cons?

Pro's are it can help decrease appetite which is beneficial for cutting, it can help increase insulin sensitivity but this effect probably doesn't do much in the big picture, and it can raise GH secretion if longer than 24hrs but again, this is negligible in the big picture. Intermittent fasting, through Calorie restriction, does show some neuroprotective benefits but whether this is from the calorie restriction or specifically the fast remains to be seen. High intensity exercise has also shown to be neuroprotective but it's hard to work out with q high intensity when you're fasting.

Cons from fasting are, it makes bulking harder, it forces you to eat your daily intake in a small window (if doing IF) or eat two day's worth of food (if doing ADF) if you're trying to bulk up. It also decreases performance in the gym and has a negative impact on alertness, mood, and wakefulness.

I don't think fasting is going to improve morbidity rates or prevent most disease/issues. If you want to go for it, go ahead, and maybe keep it to once or twice a month.
