DNP Cycle now I can't taste anything?

I went on a DNP cycle and it worked very well but towards the end I had some serious reactions to the stuff and started getting rashes/uticaria all over my arms and back. They didn't itch but they looked horrendous. I was already taking benadryl everyday but once this started happening i started taking benadryl a few times a day plus some prescription zyrtec. I took the benadryl in some higher quantities over the course of a week. The rashes went away almost immediately after I stopped the DNP but about 6 days later something very stranged happened. I started to lose the ability to taste, it happened fairly gradually and I didn't even notice it until I was drinking pop and it tasted, to me, exactly like seltzer water. I drank 3 different types (coke, mountain dew, sunkist orange) and I couldn't distinguish them at all. I have certain tastes, but I can't taste anything sweet and almost everything I eat tastes really funny. Even water has a bitter taste to it now. This has now lasted almost 2 weeks and I'm starting to worry.

I was told to do a hydroflush and start eating plain yogurt for the probiotics (though I think yogurt probiotics are mainly for gut flora and not oral microbes) but nothing seems to work. I've also started taking centrums everyday because I heard it could also be from anemia or a zinc deficiency. I've read that DNP can cause loss of taste so i figured maybe someone else had a similar experience? I have a doctor's appointment scheduled but because most doctors aren't familiar with DNP I dont have much faith in their ability to diagnose my problem.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appeciate them, because life is hell when you can't taste anything.

Things that may help

-Took a lot of Benadryl
-Took Benadryl with Prescription Zyrtec
-DNP for about 8 days with extreme diet restriction
-Drank alcohol (7 days after DNP but only 1 day after last benadryl)

Hopefully you'll get your taste back in a few weeks to months.

2,4-DNP administration

Quote: "Thirty cases of neuritis including aberrations of taste and multiple regional involvement, particularly affecting the feet and legs were recorded. Symptoms appeared after an average of
ten weeks, followed ordinary therapeutic doses and persisted for weeks or months."

thx for posting...i'm hoping it does not last "months"...doesn't seem like there's anything i can do to aid in alleviating the symptoms is there?

has anyone had this happen to them?

Hey guys. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've ran three, fairly long cycles of DNP. I encounterd dysgeusia -- the phenomenon you're experiencing -- during each of the cycles.

I tried zinc, magnesium, probiotics and anything else I could get my hands on.

My last cycle was six weeks at 400mg (400 is my personal, self-imposed limit). I lost my sense of taste approximately 1 week into the cycle and it returned to 100% approximately six weeks post cycle.

It's not a very pleasant experience to live with and I feel your pain. Rest assured that your sense of taste will return, in time, once you cease the DNP.

Good luck and take care

Losing your taste..look at the positives in this :
You can eat chicken or fish 10 times per day and never get sick of it !
I cant imagine a product like DNP that known uses include: DYE<FUNGICIDE<INSECTICIDE<EXPLOSIVE ALTERNATE TO TNT would or could effect your taste buds ?

Last summer was my first time running DNP.. it ended up being around 5weeks and I was on about 600mg a day the last week and half or so. During that week and half I began getting extreme pain in my feet - at first it felt like water retention, which subsided and turned into extreme burning that lasted a week. I could not keep my feet out of a bucket full of cool water for longer than 3 minutes without crying like a little girl. I could write a long post here about what happened following this.. but I ended up in the emergency room twice, once staying overnight. I ended up with peripheral neuropathy and could not walk/sleep for about a month because of the pain. It took between 2-3 months to recover so I could put a lot of pressure on every part of my feet to do physical activity (running, etc). I think this may be related somewhat to the original post, something related to neurosis perhaps

That is somewhat of a benefit. I mean, I saved a lot of money on diet soda during my dysgeusia run. I was drinking Diet Pepsi Max. Since all diet soda tasted like shit (feel free to insert "How is that different from normal?" jokes here,) I switched to the 2 liter, 67 cent "diet turd water" from Walmart. All the caffeine, carbonation and brown dye as.... well, anything else out there as far as my taste buds were concerned.

The problem with eating fish or chicken 10x a day is the texture. When you lose your sense of taste, you tend to notice the texture a lot more. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to eat tuna out of the can anymore. A small price to pay, if you ask me.

I think the mentality behind DNP is a lot like the mentality behind the guys that overclock their computers or soup up their cars. I like the idea of overclocking my body. The chemistry is fascinating and, when the results are there, the attention I get from peers is wonderful.

It's illegal, reckless, irresponsible and, some would say, unethical. Is it exciting? You betcha! :D

i appreciate the posts, and it's at least a little comforting knowing someone else went through the same thing and came out okay

i still can't taste anything, going to be 2 weeks tomorrow

and the texture thing is 100% accurate. the only thing i enjoy eating is chili and stew because the textures for some reason give me greater satiety. it's horrible though because I still get very hungry, i still can smell the food and get excited to eat, and then i feel nothing. and my mouth constantly feel gross because without taste working you start to notice mucus/saliva in your mouth

even water is unenjoyable to drink

but again thx for the posts, and i'll let everyone know any updates :o

Dysgeusia is a rare side effect of DNP, but one that has been known since the 1930's. I don't think there's anything to worry about. As Sassquatimus Maximus said, your taste will come back within a few weeks. There's nothing a doctor is going to be able to do for you in the meantime, so I'd cancel the appointment and save yourself the time and effort.
