Evolutionary advantage to shutdown

Why the f*ck is hpta shutdown even a thing? Like in what universe did introducing exogenous testosterone even exist? It’s not even just testosterone it’s literally any androgen at all. It’s not even like a threshold either. Like literally any amount of exogenous androgen will shut you down. Why did our body adapt to this and what even was the point?

It makes no sense to me at all from an evolutionary standpoint.

I admit I don’t know the specifics of why it even happens in the first place, but come on. Freaking asshole body.

Just shower thoughts.

Same reason why we aren’t all 9 foot tall gigachads with 15 inch willies and 30 inch biceps: there’s a tradeoff

In any given instance your body is aiming to have a target level of sex hormones (androgens and estrogens). It figures if there isn’t enough, it should tell your balls to make more. And if there is enough, it should stop telling your balls to make more.

Why not just have unfettered testosterone production? Why not have watermelon sized testicles that produce a few grams of T a day? Because testosterone increases energy requirements. In a famine, it’s the 9 foot tall 1% body fat muscle monsters who starve first (unless they eat the weaker ones).

And your body shutdowns the HPGA after taking exogenous substances because tissues atrophy when not in use. If you don’t use your muscles, they waste away for the same reason.
