ANSONIA — A city man was sentenced to probation and community service hours for his involvement in a distribution conspiracy, the Department of Justice said.
Jeffrey Gentile, 35, of Ansonia,
was sentenced to three years of probation for his role in a prescription pill and steroid distribution conspiracy, according to a release from the DOJ. Gentile is also required to complete in 150 hours of community service.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security Investigation led a long-term investigation, assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Court statements and documents revealed that
a former Newtown police sergeant, Steven Santucci, and others received shipments of steroid ingredients from China and were manufacturing and distributing steroids. The investigation showed that
those involved in the steroid manufacturing and distribution were also distributing prescription pills — including oxycodone and cocaine, the release said.
During the investigation, the agencies discovered that Alex Kenyhercz, of Ansoina, purchased steroids from Santucci and distributed them to others. Gentile paid Kenyhercz, partially with Adderall, for steroids, the release said.
At the time, Gentile was a Connecticut Juvenile Detention Officer, the release said.
Gentile was arrested on April 29, 2015, the release said. On Oct. 5, 2016, Gentile pleaded guilty to using a telephone to facilitate the distribution of amphetamine — Adderall, in this case.
Santucci and Kenyhercz pleaded guilty on similar charges, the release said. Santucci was sentenced to
16 months of imprisonment followed by six months of home confinement, 120 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine on Aug. 25, 2016. Kenyhercz awaits sentencing.
