Filtering seems pointless

I'll be honest, no matter how careful you are there is still a chance of something bad happening. If you take the nessacery precautions the percentage gets lower and lower. I use UGL's for now, but after researching and talking to some guys I trust here, homebrewing is the way to go. You know what you're getting, you know how it's dosed, and you know how it's prepared. If something happens you also know who to blame. ;)

Amen.

@UKHomebrew you can close your eyes and run across a motorway several times and not be run over... Doesn't mean it's the best way to do things..

I had a friend get an infection off some of Naps gear. (Details in his thread with pics.)

Over 20K in hospital bills, a 12 inch scar down the front of his quad, a life-long limp. And the doctor told him if he waited 24 more hours they would have needed to remove his entire quad to deal with the massive infection. (FYI, you have to have your quad muscle to walk, so wheelchair for the guy.)

How, why, whos to blame...does any of that matter?

The point, UK, a few dollars, a few extra minutes can never offset the damage that in infection can cause. WHY (Im asking honestly) WHY wouldnt you do everything in your power to eliminate to possibility of infection?

To anyone who reads this thread. Dont fall into the, "It wont happen to me." mindset. I saw it first hand and it was scary!

I actually re-filter all my UGL gear (except for a couple private labs I use and trust). Its only a few dollars for so much peace of mind. Get some sterile sealed bottles and whatman filters. Its just a few buck and and a few minutes. DONT RISK THIS GUYS!

I've come to have zero Trust in ugl products and am now looking into homebrew so I can be safe in the knowledge of what's in it, cost aside the main benefits of homebrew is you know how it's made. Surely if you have control over this you will make the very best products you can, ie proper dosing and the very best sterilisation procedures.

I would say that 99% of UG labs do not filter their stuff. I home brew my own and filter with a .22 Whatman syringe filter, as I only brew 100 ml at a time. At least I have the peace of mind knowing that my stuff is not contaminated with bacteria or trace metals.

Yeah but I can also tell you about the numerous people who have used filtered gear and still had problems.

Abcesses and suchlike are caused by crappy injection procedures/dirty needles. Unless gear is being made in a bathrub in some dank and dirty hostel, gear tends to be ok. Even more so for homebrew products I would argue.

Yes I took a "chance" on unfiltered gear... but it was an educated guess. Talking about viruses and stuff like that. I mean really? The human body has figured out amazing ways to weed stuff like that out (antibodies for one... temperature control the other).

I maintain... BA, heat and sterile injection procedures are safe ways to go about your homebrew lifestyle.
The human body really hasn't figured out ways to fight all microbrial threats. that's why labs have to create asceptic enviroments, even having to cobtrol lighting. injecting these biological threats directly in your bloodstream bypasses a lot of your naatural immune system, it wasn't meant to handle somethinng like that. they have been built up over generations and generations to fight natural threats, there is no reason for your imnune system to be primed to fight microbrial infection from direct injection because it is not natural. you may get away with it 1000 times, its that one time that counts. besides do yyou really trust your raw supplier that much.
