Finally after about two yrs of debating if i want to go personal training route between. NASM.ACR.ASCM.ISSA. I ORIGINALLY wanted to go do the nasm they have like a 1000$ package that has alot alot of included stuff plus guantee pass the exam and job. I jave a freind that has the issa and she hasent haf a problem with work or anything like that but some places will want you to get the nasm or acsm with in sox months she said. issa is only 499 and the exam is open book. Sounds really good to get your foot in the door very quickly to get in the feild and then spread out to other certifications while your working.

My cousin had acsm books bc thats what she has, so she gave me her books and im going to start studying today. Any perso al trainers in here?

I am doing all that. I was suspended from school(Well known) for 1 year but have one more semester left for a exercise science degree/Kinesiology. I was 1 month before graduating. My roomate called cops on me. FUCK MY LIFE! Will be getting 3 of those certifications while I am there. Have to for the classes anyway. Going back in Aug after legal issues are done. I have the ASCM book to. Needed it for my Exercise prescription, Neuromusclular Fitness, and cardio/respiratory fitness classes. I do not know which other cert I am getting besides ASCM.

Wow, I am really sorry to hear about that situation man, but I am glad to hear you're staying the course. I am also working on finishing my degree of Exercise Physiology with a minor in Human Nutrition.

I started out with the NASM certification and was hired at my local gym. I think most of those courses are looked rather highly upon. Just to keep in mind, some gyms are looking for a certain certification like you mentioned. My friend also took the ISSA course and did very well, but later got screwed out of a job he was looking at because the ISSA final exam is open book. Just be careful and research which is best suited for you. I heard nothing but good things about ASCM and NASM. Hope this was helpful.

how does the personal trainer field work salary wise. I was reading something on a forum and i think it was about chain gyms also but like you get paid only by how many sessions a week you train ppl. If thats the case when you first start your first weeks how do you make money??

I know the golds gym near me hires people to work the register, or a common job as well. So you do that and also personal train for some people. They actually will give you some people. Others pick and chose. But I am sure this is only for golds. Other gyms are different. I don't work there either a bunch of my homies do.

Most gyms will 'hire' personal trainers to work at their gym, not for them. The pts clients and wage is their own business, how much money they make each week depends purely on how many clients they have and what they charge per session.
The gym couldn't care less, they simply ask for a rent fee each week in order to let you use their facilities. Most gyms charge an initial fee (usually $1500) plus weekly rent (usually $200) and each year afterwards there's an annual fee (usually $500).
Some gyms will help you with clients, a good gym will have a great fitness director who will help pts tremendously with their business and marketing.

That being said the industry will fuck you over with costs for extra qualifications (like a boxing, kettlebell or ropes course) or mandatory registrations that provide no benefit.
You must have the qualification first before you can legally use the equipment with a client.

But to end on a positive note, i charge $50 per half hour session, if i were to work 8hr days, 5 days a week, then i could be potentially earning $208,000 annually.

Great post @Isaac. This is exactly how it was for me when my local gym hired me. My gym was a family owned fitness center so we were able to negotiate the fees for allowing me to train clients there and "hiring" me. They took their cut of every training session and I had to pay a once a year fee to use their facilities. The nice part about being an "independent" trainer of sorts as mentioned is you can set your prices. The only down side is I had to recruit my own clients, but the owners were really great guys and helped me out, referring clients to me along the way.

im actually a electrician been doing construction since i finished highschool, but i spen all my free time glued to educating my health nutrition and fitness and cant get enough

In todays times you need to set yourself apart from other trainers...So many just have basic certifications and train as such.!

What kind of routine do you like prescribing to overweight females. I know age, bf, etc will play part in the routine but general rypes of routines

Any new client you should do an assessment to determine if they have any pain, injuries or imbalances even underlying health issues before you write them any type of physical workout routine. #1 complaint I have found over the years of complaints of new clients is that their prior trainers have neglected those things I mentioned above..

I am pretty sure its all in the book. I read the whole thing. Used to know chapters 2,3,4,6,7,. all by heart. one year later I have know idea lol.
