front squats

Hi bro's, when should front squats be used,before or after squats?? And how often, once of twice a week??
 
Front squats are just another fantastic form of squat. On a 5x5 program, I would front squat for the Wednesday session. If you are really working hard at squatting, you won't be able to back squat and then front squat or vice versa.

Based on where your weaknesses are and what your goals are, you can incorporate them as you see fit. However, if I were a bodybuilder I would front squat about 1/3 of the time, and back squat 2/3 of the time. - That's just a general guideline.

Oh yeah, and don't do them the bodybuilding pussy way, by crossing your arms. Learn how to do it right, by racking the weight on your shoulders and getting your elbows up high, like a real athlete.

Well I have to disagree with Phreezer a bit on this one. (First of all, let me say Phreezer is an awesome guy, a great personal friend, and knows what he's talking about training-wise.)

However, in the first picture, the guy is sqauatting pussy bodybuilder style with his arms crossed. Learn how to do it right.

Second, I'm not a huge fan of zerchers. They are great for awhile, but then you'll get strong enough where you can't hold enough weight in the crooks of your arms. Try putting 405 in the crokks of your arms and standing up with it. Horrible, horrible pain.

I'll try and find a good pic of some front squatting the right way. Also, overhead squats are tremendous as well.
