LOL, no shit! these fuckin guys are cryin about gas prices that we haven't seen in years.. Oh and fuck texas with your next to nothing gas prices.. fuckin bullshit! bush can lick my seam - that clown shoe wearing cartoon faced dumb ass..

Fuck Texas?? Well, fuck you too!!! dont hate cause our gas prices are so low :) If anything, we dirty up our own city(Houston) with the refineries so that we can ship gas to you. So, we are not totally making out like bandits. But I am in agreement, these prices do suck. Regardless of what you are paying, we all are having to deal with an increase in prices which none of us have been used to, nor budgeted for.

What I dont get is why Americans bitch so much about gas prices. Take a look at what Europeans pay for it. Maybe someone from across the Pond can verify, but I think their gas prices are typically about twice as expensive as they are in the US. IIRC, in the neighborhood of US$3.50-5 per gallon.

I agree Bob but I think the reason Americans bitch so much is beacuse gas has gone up so much in recent years and continues to go up. If gas prices were the same as they were people woudn't bitch so much. I coudn't imagine paying 3.50.

Adjusted for inflation, there has been very little increase in gas prices over the past 5 or 10 or 20 years.

People don't see inflation like they see gas prices. Gas was .99 where I live five years ago, 1.79 today. :(

We should pay less because we BUY more than any other country in the world... You know Bob.. The more you buy... the less it costs ;)

Hey...... Kinda like costco right? :)

There is a limit to the economies of scale. And youre talking single orders, not total market.

Is the US one big single order or a great repeat customer?

It is an entire market (American gas) made up of billions of orders (fill-ups) per year. It is a ton of demand for a limited supply (thank you OPEC). In all reality, the gas business is more of a monopoly/oligopoly than anything else. OPEC determines their output levels which in turn, in a very basic sense, controls what price we pay at the pump. The differences between states can often be attribued to taxes.

IIRC, the US consumes somewhere around 25% of World's production of oil every year. Thats a lot of demand for only amounting to roughly 4% of the world's population.
